The lack of Chief logos on flags and posters is surprising.

This is why I never understood the fit on the show because most people don't realize him and big cat are playing characters. If you aren't in on the joke it has to be infuriating.

As I was typing that I realized thats exactly why they did it, piss enough people off and social media clips go viral every week I'm sure.

Depends on what your expectations were before the year. Mine was 8-4(at best), but more than likely 7-5. So, for me, no, it's not as big as it's made out to be. Get to a bowl game and it's a success.
So here's the thing, if you have a 10-3 team returning most of their starters and you say that you expect that team to 8-4 at best, probably 7-5, then your expectations in general just isn't high.

And there's nothing inherently wrong with that, but if you thought after last year that this team this year would have any chance whatsoever to get more than 8 wins, then plain and simple there isn't any faith there that we're a team capable of sustaining success or beating 2nd tier teams consistently.

And from a historical perspective I get it, but at some point we as a fanbase need to believe. Just believe. And that 10 win team might just surprise us someday. To the point where they return and win more than 10 games, not 8 at absolute most.

This may sound tuff after last week, but I'm not sure you'd find me one credible person nationally (or Illinois) who asseted Illinois was "at best" a 8-4 team. And likeliest 6 or 7 wins.

My goal heading into IU was the split the next two weeks. It's really one loss to a very good team, which was not unexpected... its just the manner which was alarming.

It might be successful for you, but only making a bowl game (6 wins) with one of the most experienced teams in the conference, it is hard to see that as a success (what fanbase would be happy with 6-6 after starting season ranked 12?). The bar was set higher due to the success of last season. Yes, it would be back-to-back bowl games for the first time in over 30 years, but I think it would damage the perceptions of the non-die hard fans.

Good news is that there is still a lot for this season to play out.
You have to remember, last year we won games that were borderline miracles with one being Purdue at home and @Rutgers. Those could have VERY easily been losses, but we got the ball last and scored, which leads us to playmakers.

Our receiving corp last year was five times better than last year. We had an NFL receiver on the roster, who was one of two go to guys. With as good as Beatty has been, on an explosive team, he's a slot guy who's a complement to other elite players. He's our go to right now.

Our RB's.....the loss of McCray also hurts. I'm not going to dog Feagin, but we all see the issue. That brings us to Valentine, who struggles blocking. It's a tough situation.

Ultimately, the one this effects most is Altmyer. He can only do so much. The offensive line is definitely a problem, BUT he's also forced to hold onto the ball too long because there's nowhere to go with it.

Defensively, we don't get any pressure from our front four. None. This creates the need to blitz and get exotic. You can't do that all game. Our DB's, again, out of respect, let's leave it alone.

Back to the original point, let's back off of the dramatics of calling them miracles, let's call those 50/50 games last year. We can add Nebraska in there as a 50/50 game. We won all three. If we're 7-5 instead, plus we add getting absolutely crushed by Oregon, where they took their foot off the gas at halftime...the entire thought process changes.

I think that we focus too much on the result last and not enough about how we arrived there. A TON went right. That's just a fact.

Taking that into consideration, expectations IMO weren't as high as some others had.

In regards to last week versus Indiana, nobody could have predicted 63-10, but that first half versus Duke was very fresh in my mind. People look at the results, but again...take the big picture. Duke didn't just shoot themselves in the foot, they blew both feet completely off. The Indiana head coach highlighted that. He wasn't lying. Western Michigan didn't exactly make me feel any better.

This post was far too long, apologies, but results are great, digging deeper and being honest after really thinking about it.....this isn't a shock.

Lets get to a solid bowl and keep building. Again, that JMO.

I don't think I've ever watched this show before, but do they always have like 10 times the hype for the away team than the home team who is hosting their show? After watching 2 hours of nothing but USC love, I've had my fill of this show and USC.

Other than the location, the announcers mentioned Altmeyers name and thats the sum total of the Illinois coverage on this pregame show.

I put it on about 40 minutes ago and it's been a total USC lovefest. If I didn't know beforehand, I wouldn't know who they were playing.
