I'm back! I thought we were toast like the USA golf team.

Great comeback win. love to see teams react to some adversity with poise and a mission. Clean up the fumbles and hopefully something changes with the soft D.
Good job by o-line and Lunney.
Nothing could be deader than the us ryder cup team. Tv ratings for that are gonna be abysmal tomorrow.

Did I just hear coach say, " Elzy" is no longer with us? Wtf. I hold him/ elzy, but also staff accountable for this. Horrible.

Can't wait to hear what Robert was thinking at the time of that second goal line fumble. Iirc, he had us playing a clean game, and that keeping it close. To see the prospect of us giving away a win due to a late, bad turnover must had him horrified.

- That took years off my life.
- Still going to take time for me to fully exorcise "Illini gonna Illini". Illinois never wins that game, kudos to offense and Olano.
- USC is a GREAT offense. So, while easy to call out D, USC is going to make a lot of teams look silly.
- Refs stole points on that 1H fumble. Even getting 3 there while getting ball to start 2nd completely changes the vibe.
- What's the [expletive deleted] point of replay if it can't correct that call. It was clear. It was definitive.
- Stewart Mandel can STFU

I went to school in the 1980s - Eason/Trudeau/Rose Bowl. Long time season ticket holder. This is arguably the greatest victory of my lifetime. Never was there a more important game nor a more important stage than today. Our dear old Illinois.

Generally speaking, an interesting college football game.
23 beats 21 at the last tick at 23s stadium, that fits, not sure they are both 25 teams but I expect they won’t move much in the polls
And finally, as expected, we are only as good as our O line on any given day
I imagine we’ll move up as many spots as the teams like 5 ahead of us lose. So at least 1 spot. That UVA win probably props them into the mix though.

we are same age

this game is up there , no doubt , but not in the top 5 or even too 10 of the “modern era”

but it’s a GREAT win .

Defense couldn't get off the field but it was interesting they played a completely different scheme switching mostly to zone looks. USC was able to pick it apart because there was no pressure but also Maiava made some OUTSTANDING throws into tight windows. Their TEs have to be hurting too because they were getting rocked but kept holding on to the ball.

So, was I the only Illinois fan cheering when USC scored coming out of the 2 min timeout?
The dumbest play of the game was throwing that pass so early. Dumb Dumb Dumb. Really dumb.

People looked at me in my section like I had 3 eyes. I was jumping up and down. Felt like Lou Tepper @ MN, but so what, it was for the best.

Zero percent chance Illinois stops USC at anytime during that drive. Zero.

Illinois needed the ball last and got it. Thank GOD USC saved Bielema and Henry.

I know we had a few “moments” today and last week was a disaster but we are so well coached. Especially when viewed against some of the guys we had roam the sidelines in the past.

We don’t have enough 5 star talent to play thru a bunch of mistakes but you can see a consistent philosophy and approach to what we are trying to do most weeks. The buy in from last week to today speaks to the resilience and resourcefulness of the coaching staff as well as the level to which the players are buying what Bret is selling.

What an exciting victory! Much needed. First thought when USC scored to take the lead with 1:55 left was, "They scored too soon." As upset as I was that Illinois coughed up the lead, I just had a good feeling that they'd come back and win it.

Amazing day.

Have we had a player with a return, pass, receive, and running TD before? How often does this happen in college football?
I think they said in the game that Luke's hat trick (one passing, one receiving, and one rushing, all in the same game) hadn't been done since the 1900's. If that's any better indication.

I don’t think many were confident we would hold them from scoring 7 on that possession

that said , you never not take 6 when you can get it when down ,
and
you never purposely let them score when up

We should "let" teams score a little bit more in that situation (especially when all you need is a FG). Would've been pretty disastrous had that TD been with, say, 45 seconds rather than a full two minutes.

The zebras protecting the big name programs might be the bigger issue at play here. Sc is a “blue blood” and they get lots of breaks. Same as OSU and Michigan over the years.
You have no idea how unprotected USC was today compared or how they got games called in the Pac-12

Maiava had some very accurate tight window throws with his feet set, but man oh man does he put his receivers in absolutely terrible defenseless positions. I would not be surprised if half of his receivers were coughing up blood after the game. Credit to them for taking the hits and going back out there, but those hits they took can last for weeks. Would not be surprised at all if their offense lays an absolute egg next game. That type of punishment is not sustainable.

So yes. Some great throws, but a whole lot of hospital balls.
