Watching that call overturned on the Oregon not-fumble just makes the call against us so much more egregious.
But we won!!!!

You'd legitimately have to have zero knowledge of the rules to believe this as a fumble:

Indeed. People can say, boy that surely was close. But shoulder hits ground then ball pops out. Ref should've blown the play dead and didn't. Replay official should've overturned it and didn't. There is little question in my mind if our jersey said Michigan or USC, or hell, even Indiana apparently that call gets overturned.

And little talked about but the refs were somehow 3yds off on the spot of the final run by Feagin that would've given us a first down and allowed us to spot the ball in the middle of the field for Olano instead of making it 4th and 1 from the hash.

Plain and simple if you want to beat a brand name you have to be at least 10pts better than them because like it or not, that's about what they get spotted. And thankfully we were 12pts better than them today :)

I’ve watched this over and over and I don’t see HOW they missed it this badly. That was brutal.

Sadly, we didn’t have a challenge to use there.

Yes! I would have been a lot angrier if the Olano kick goes different because it's an obvious first down. Picking that up gives Bielema more options. He easily could have run another play, maybe two if he runs a pass play. Could have chosen to line up the ball.

I don't want to be that guy.... but upon further review... I actually think the refs got it right...

I was at the game, and it looked like he was down. And, I (as well as 60,000 others) were PISSSSSSED. Then I got home about an hour ago and went RIGHT to that play. Oh my god, I was LIVID. So obviously he hits the ground THEN the ball pops out. The announcers even called it.

But.... they made a really good point (conveniently not in the clip that is being shown all over). His shoulder didn't hit the ground. It hit another defender who was on the ground. Not down. Ball pops out. Yellow is the ground. Green is the defender. Feagin's arm is on the green (that's the defender's arm on the ground, not Feagin's). Ball pops out immediately after this still image.

@IlliniKat91 Or two, Kat! I missed one of my first Homecoming games ever today (since 1974) so I could watch my junior granddaughter race in her hs cross country meet. Thank goodness she did great (9th out if 121) to make it worth it!!!
Way to make some of us feel guilty for skipping apple picking with the grandkids to go to this game!

We had 2 timeouts left at the time so coulda run maybe 3 plays depending on time usage of the plays. Possible snap a decent run and end up with a chip shot.

Nothing could be deader than the us ryder cup team. Tv ratings for that are gonna be abysmal tomorrow.
I went to school in the 1980s - Eason/Trudeau/Rose Bowl. Long time season ticket holder. This is arguably the greatest victory of my lifetime. Never was there a more important game nor a more important stage than today. Our dear old Illinois.
83 Ohio State????

I think you can only rate them many years after. OSU 83 was huge. Set up rose bowl. All of America looking.

If that had continued the following years, yes. But we kinda went downhill after that season.

This win got the positive momentum back. If we go bowling this year and the following i think we'll all look back on this one as huge. If not, it will be just another great win without long term impact.

So, was I the only Illinois fan cheering when USC scored coming out of the 2 min timeout?
The dumbest play of the game was throwing that pass so early. Dumb Dumb Dumb. Really dumb.

People looked at me in my section like I had 3 eyes. I was jumping up and down. Felt like Lou Tepper @ MN, but so what, it was for the best.

Zero percent chance Illinois stops USC at anytime during that drive. Zero.

Illinois needed the ball last and got it. Thank GOD USC saved Bielema and Henry.
Before the TD, I suggested to my son, that even though you couldn't do it, the clock was the enemy and letting them score would be a smart strategic move. When they threw to the endzone and scored the next play, we looked at each other and started laughing. That was a huge favor that Lincoln Riley did for us.

As frustrating as these last two games have been (obviously today's game was much better), I remind myself that this program is in much better shape than previous decades. We are at a level of relevancy where high expactations is now a thing. That's better than hoping for a bowl game every 5 seasons.

To your point.

We have high enough expectations that this little tidbit wasn't even on my radar. Like... I just expect to win these games... to the point that I wouldn't have even realized this fact.
