Sheesh winning with pitching and defense. I love it. Suzuki was CLUTCH in game 1 and tonight. Tucker, PCA and even Happ with the double had the bats wake up and boom, a solid W. Let's go win a couple games at Wrigley North.

When Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday in Milwaukee will be played will be decided based on who wins Red Sox/Yankees. If the Yankees win, the game will be at 1:08 PM CT. If the Red Sox win, the game will be at 8:08 PM CT. The NLDS and NLCS are both on TBS.

Watching PCA’s lack of plate discipline does give me ugly flashbacks of Javy Baez never learning to take on low and away sliders.
Why would you ever throw a strike to PCA when he’ll swing at 3 pitches outside the strike zone? Love his potential, but must have huge improvement in pitch selection.
This certainly didn't age well....I'm ecstatic that PCA made some changes to his stance and swing today and got three hits! Hope this production continues for the remainder of the playoffs. Having him on the basepaths makes the Cubs so much more dangerous.

I’ve been watching from a distance this year, but should Keller have been given the 9th with 20+ pitches already?

I would be thrilled to be wrong. Not much clutch hitting but with surprisingly good pitching enough hitting to win and stellar defense.
You're already wrong. I do agree that the lack of clutch hitting will ultimately be their demise. Can't get around that. That said, they just beat a team with probably the best pitching.....starters AND bullpen combined, in the league. They will not face that type of dominance again. That bullpen for San Diego was flat out nasty. Every. Single. Pitcher could hit 100 with movement.

You're also right that pitching and defense can take you a LONG way. They're getting both. Their defense up the middle(Swanson, Hoerner and PCA) is probably the best in the league.

For the 8 teams remaining, outside of the Dodgers and Yankees, it's been a wildly successful season. Doesn't matter what happens from here on out. There's only one team that can win and their ALL really, really good. For the Dodgers and Yankees, if they don't win the World Series, it's a bust. That's probably triple for the Dodgers given their payroll.

Hate to call you out, but per your statement, you're already wrong. That was a big time series win and they did, indeed, advance.

In this series, the Cubs scored a total of 6 runs and the Padres 5. Just need to score enough to score more than the other team which they did. Sure, we'd all love 10-2 wins but that doesn't happen in the playoffs.

Bring on the Brewers!

Agreed, we beat the best pitching in the playoffs and it’s not even close. Milwaukee has issues with their staff and pen. CC has the design on how he will pitch as getting our starters to 5-6 innings then let the pen take over. Theilbar, Palencia, Pomeranz, Kittridge and Keller will be the guys when we are tied or have the lead. These games coming up will be interesting. I could see Cubs, Phillies, Yankees and Seattle come out of these series.

I was looking at the entire playoff(s) not just the first round. I still think clutch hitting will be their downfall unless 1. PCA decides to be a singles hitter 2. Tucker returns to early season form 3. Happ comes out of his slump. Pitching and defense have to remain tough. Feel better than I did two weeks ago but still concerned about clutch hitting against the aces of the opponents. Win at least one in Milwaukee before returning to Wrigley.

What's the inside scoop on our pitching rotation for the NLDS? I'm guessing Boyd for game #2 in Milwaukee. Taillon then gets the first start when we return to Wrigley?

Rea, Civale and Soroka triple team the opener on Saturday? Any of those three could go 5 innings if pitching well.

92 wins and a post-season series win. Hard not to view this season as a success. Especially considering the contributions from rookies and second year players.

Starting lineup and starting pitchers look teed up for next year. Will need to totally reconstruct the bullpen, but Palencia is certainly showing that he’s a good starting piece.
Is it reasonable to think Boyd and Rea can repeat this type of season again?
