Boyd going tonight. I believe that he will pitch well. I believe that he will go no more than 5. Depending on how the game is going, we can use Sokora or Rea for a couple innings then get to Palencia/Theilbar and Pomeranz. Try to not use Keller or Kittridge until Saturday. I would start whoever you don’t use today Sokora or Rea on Saturday. Civale can play a role as well as Brown. All hands on deck. I can see multiple pitching moves on Saturday. I believe we win today and go balls to the wall in Game 5.

I guess they are still on a 9 year honeymoon period. Great job at the deadline guys ! Can't wait until 2032.
I guarantee Ricketts considers this year to be wildly successful: Stayed under the salary cap and got 4 playoff games at home. (Emphasis on staying under the salary cap)
So do we think home wildcard was the goal all along...add a couple extra home playoff games to the revenue? hate to win the division and give up a the revenue from a couple of extra home games? /s

No, I don't think they're that twisted.
However, they didn't want to go over the salary cap for the 2nd straight year when they would be taxed at an even higher rate.

Soroka shouldn’t even be on the roster but since he is if Counsell had to pitch him you can say goodbye to game four.Assad should be the one coming in after Boyd

Game 4 Starter?

I guess it could be Boyd, but I believe I'm going to return to my Civale/Rea/Brown recommendation. I'd probably pitch them in this sequence and immediately pull anyone who allows three base runners in an inning. (Brown could be on an even shorter string.) Strategically mix-in Pomeranz, Thielbar, Kittredge, and Palencia, saving Keller once again for the 9th.

Friday is a day of rest for the entire staff and then we have Boyd/Imanaga to get us through 5-6 innings on Saturday. Horton replaces Soroka and opens the NLCS against LA/PHIL next week. Rogers might replace Brown for the NLCS.
Personally I’ve seen enough of Boyd in Milwaukee.

We can agree on that as I would have liked Assad on the roster. But here we are. I think we will see several pitchers tonight since it could be the last game of the year. We will have a day of rest tomorrow so its all hands on deck the next two games. CC will act like Sparky Anderson and give the hook early and often. I like our chances tonight.

I believe we survive tonight and your thought of having a bull pen by committee start on Saturday would be the route I would take. Imanaga is mentally and physically drained. I would not put him on the NLCS roster if we get to that point.

I can't argue your main point. All hands on deck over the next two games.

Just hoping that an NLCS appearance does indeed come to fruition.....but with that said, I can't fathom any scenario where our top FA pitcher is left off the playoff roster. Would be totally shocking to me.

I get that. In his last 4 games he is 0-2 with a 8.06 ERA. He isn’t fooling anyone. His out pitch is being hit all over the place. I hope this offseason he develops a new pitch and get his mental game back. The club has a mutual option and it will be interesting if the front office plays that card.

There is so much focus on the pitching, but the reality is that the pitching has bailed out just a terrible 2nd half offense. It's ridiculous how bad the Cubs are at manufacturing runs. These playoffs, they have scored over three runs exactly one time and that was yesterday with four.

Boyd and Shota are out of gas and it's too bad if their season is defined by thx postseason. They held this whole thing together despite a completely impotent offense.

Can see them scoring more than 2 versus Peralta, so we're looking for a superhuman performance from the staff......again.
