Looking forward to Pope Leo throwing out that first pitch on opening day next spring, … and to a continually improving team!

The Sox clearly need more talent to be able to compete for playoff spots. While we appreciate the nearly 20-game improvement over last season... the 100-plus losses continue to be a franchise and fan embarrassment.

The Sox have two paths to get better. The young talent that came on this season all have to continue to get better and not just stall out or regress... and outside player talent needs to be brought in. And... how about some relief pitchers, Sox Management? OK, you tried the experiment of going through an entire season without relief pitching and that didn’t exactly work out. Is Hoyt Wilhelm still available? Bob Locker? Goose Gossage? Somebody...?.

And we are still faced with the big question mark over the future home of the franchise. Will it be on the South Side or not? We Sox fans are here and ready to respond as we always do and show up at the park in big numbers. But we need a ball club that stays IN TOWN and is worth watching.

Just a couple of the things on the Sox ‘To Do’ list.

In that case the Sox should be the first game of the season, the first official act is the Pope throwing out the first pitch. I'm not Catholic, and the Sox are only my second favorite team, but I could get into that!

It’d be good for baseball, the church, and the country!

Until Sox ownership changes... it will take Divine intervention for the Sox to become a winning ball club.

Always remember... the Sox had 17 winning seasons in a row before the wheels came off in the late Sixties. And the franchise has never been close to that kind of record since.

And maybe the Sox will bring back Nancy Faust a couple times to play a few hymns between innings. Couldn't hurt!

Well good thing the Pope is a Sox fan!

Some good news from Arizona Fall League. Hopefully Smith stays healthy and makes it to big leagues fairly soon.

Hagen Smith, LHP, Chicago White Sox

Smith finished out the year on a high note in the semi-final of the Southern League playoffs as he struck out ten batters across five scoreless innings. This was sandwiched between a six-walk regular season finale in which he allowed just one hit and a five-walk championship game for the Southern League.

Sharp on Wednesday, Smith tossed three scoreless innings with just three hits and two walks allowed. He punched out four batters and generated 11 whiffs, good for a 55 percent whiff rate. The fastball worked in the mid-90s, topping out at 97 mph and was good for a 50 percent whiff rate.

From a secondary standpoint, Smith relied heavily on the slider which sat around 83 mph with good depth and around five inches of sweep. He did mix in a couple of changeups that worked around 90 mph.

Another short profile from AFL by same source as above. Believe I’ve posted on him previously. Currently, ranked #11 on WSox prospect list.

Sam Antonacci, 2B, Chicago White Sox

If you like Sal Frelick it stands to reason you’d like Sam Antonacci, too. He’s pesky, doesn’t strike out, walks a fair bit, and makes contact with everything, all while putting balls in seats very sparingly. He regularly runs on-base percentages greater than his slugging percentages, and it’s a surprisingly productive formula. He’s never posted a wRC+ under 150 at any level and managed to swipe nearly 50 bags over 116 games in 2025. He’s putting up stellar counting stats early, tabbing his second double, fourth and fifth RBIs, and third stolen base in a 2-for-4 performance that also featured two walks.

Weren't they expecting big things from Elko? Or am I confusing him with someone else?
Not really. He became a Twitter darling when he had a big month or two earlier this season and fans started clamoring for him to be brought up. I don’t think WSox were expecting big things out of him. He is 26, wasn’t highly drafted, and wasn’t close to being on top 30 prospect list at the beginning of this year. They finally brought him up and though he only had 74 plate appearances, he struck out 30 times and batted under .150. They may try to bring him back on minor league contract, but might as well clear him off the 40 man roster.
