There are 35 SEC and BT jobs plus ND. Those are the best 35 jobs. Vandy is definitely top 30 job.

Every school not in BT and SEC has significant risk.
Quite honestly, I'm struggling to think of a P4 program that is lower on the totem pole than Vandy's - maybe Wake or BC? There are several non-P4 programs that are better - Boise, Memphis, USF to name a few. Vandy is two years removed from being godawful, and they will return to that state as soon as Pavia and Lea leave at the end of this year.

When’s the last time a BT or SEC coach left on their free will for any non BT or SEC job?

The divide between BT and SEC jobs and not BT and SEC jobs is huge.

Oddly Gary Andersen left Wisconsin for Oregon State

For the P4

1. Florida
2. Penn State
big gap
3. Arkansas
bigger gap
4. Wisconsin
5. *OK State
6. UCLA

Wisconsin has a rep of not being very good with NIL, so there quite a few potential openings that would leapfrog Wisconsin (example Baylor). Heck Wisconsin could be lot closer to Oregon State than Arkansas.

*oops OSU

Virginia tech and standford are also open. Unc, fsu, auburn, lsu,Maryland all might be making changes. It’s still a big 10 job but the Wisconsin program has fallen off. Having Minnesota and Illinois improve definitely hurts them

Dang I am not so bright tonight hehe.

Put Va Tech above Wisky too. Also, I would not be shocked if Frank Reich loses the interim tag. Not likely, but not impossible.

Yeah a competent Illinois is a bit of a nightmare for Wisconsin.

Reich has said this will only be a 1 year thing. Also does Wisconsin want the same AD that hired fleck to hire his replacement?

You are overrating that Arkansas job quite a bit. That's is a bottom 2 job in the 2nd best football conference. Building a winner in Arkansas is going to take some Cignetti level miracle working. Missouri being good also really hurts recruiting. Wisconsin job is not what it used to be but is better than Arkansas.

The Razorback athletic department are fairly schizophrenic, but rich alumni is not an issue. Their booster group include John Tyson and half the Waltons. Heck Jerry Jones is just another booster to them. However their AD is pretty iffy,

Don't forget it was Arkansas who poached Bielema from Wisconsin, not vice versa.

And how'd that work out? That was a bad career move and I'm sure even Bielema would admit as much. Here are Arkansas's recruiting class rankings within the SEC, per 247, for this cycle and the last several:

2026: #16 (out of 16)
2025: #15 (out of 16)
2024: #15 (out of 16)
2023: #9 (out of 14)
2022 #13 (out of 14)
2021: #9 (/14)
2020: #11 (/14)
2019: #10 (/14)

And they aren't doing much better in the portal either. If these resources aren't getting you recruits, what the heck are they good for?

No, the point you are responding to is correct. There are B1G + SEC jobs, and there is everyone else.

Vandy could double his salary and he'd still be in the lower half of SEC coaches.
It's dp you want to go grab a paycheck with the chance for a Natty or stay somewhere where 6 8 to 9 win seasons gets you a statue..

That was 10+ years ago, and football landscape was a lot different then. Pac 12 was still a power conference then too. Plus, given what I’ve heard about his off field “performances” while at Oregon State, he may have started to wear out his welcome in Madison. Let’s just say Bret in his younger days had nothing on Gary A.

If anything, the outcomes of this week likely means Jonathan Smith is safe because Michigan State is not fully committed to moving on.

With this many coaching gigs primed to open up, I think it's clear that Franklin, if he wants to (and it appears he does) can land a head coaching gig without having to do the whole "analyst" thing first. Where does he land? Any chance he ends up at Wisconsin? Seems to me like that could be a decent fit.

Just to be clear, I don't want this to happen. I think Franklin is, overall, a good coach and could very well turn Wisconsin into a top-third Big Ten program.

It's very unlikely but we could have a coaching carousel where the following jobs are available because of fired coaches:

Penn State
Florida
Virginia Tech
Arkansas
UCLA
Oklahoma State
Stanford (interim from offseason)
Kansas State
Arizona
Wisconsin
Kentucky
South Carolina
North Carolina
Michigan State
Maryland
Auburn
LSU
Mississippi State
Oklahoma
Florida State
NC State

I can never remember a season with some many jobs that realistically can open up this deep into October. This isn't even including the G5 jobs like UAB, Kent State, Colorado State, etc.

What about Iowa? I've heard there is a chance Kirk retires,. Have you heard anything about that?
