Need some more clues
1) Newton is not the only transfer that made a difference. Cam Spencer was the second leading scorer and starting point guard of a national championship winning team. He also shot 44% from 3 point range on 5.6 attempts a game.UConn’s very best players were all recruited out of HS. Newton’s the only transfer that even made a difference there.
Look at 2022-23 roster top scorer:
Sanogo- 16.7 PPG (JR…HS recruit)
Hawkins- 16.2 PPG (SO…HS recruit)
Newton- 10.1 PPG (SR…transfer)
Karaban- 9.3 PPG (FR)
Klingan- 6.9 PPG (FR)
Jackson- 6.7 PPG (FR)
5/6 are NBA players. 4/5 were HS recruits.
2023-24. They did use Newton/Spencsr quite a bit. However, the best players on the team were Castle/Klingan- two HS recruits. And 6 of their top 9 were still recruited out of HS.
Think it's Lucas Morillo. Attends Newman Academy
Sorry but "in this day and age you cannot win at the highest level without dipping into what is considered non traditional recruiting." does not mean what you're claiming. With NIL and Big 10 Rev Share, the playing field has been significantly leveled to where prestige isn’t the main factor in guys choosing which college to go for. It’s $$$$.
A couple comments in this thread said relying on veteran transfers and Euro pros is the only way to win. It’s not. You can still go get the best HS players and get it done like Duke does. Or develop program guys like Purdue that have tons of continuity. Or both that UConn does.

That's a nice straw man you have there...

It's bothering me how wildly incorrect this last statement is.With NIL and Big 10 Rev Share, the playing field has been significantly leveled to where prestige isn’t the main factor in guys choosing which college to go for. It’s $$$$.

Indy cryptically indicating that O is trying to close on a dude we've talked about quite a bit on here is great.Man Indy tried to save us with interesting news.... but the deep need to argue semantics is too strong....

I'd argue it's more being wrong, not just semantics, but I do envy people who can see someone say or write something completely wrong, correctly realize that "it's better for everyone that I keep my mouth shut" and actually follow through on that. A very useful skill that I never was able to get the hang of.Man Indy tried to save us with interesting news.... but the deep need to argue semantics is too strong....

Discussing recruiting strategy on a recruiting message board. Also great.
Whining about other people's posts? Not so much.
