Well that is the thing especially with this recruiting class we got coming assuming we keep our top recruits coming in especially on defense a talented DC should be able to not only get creative but also build a 22 type defense in a couple of of seasons I really dont think Henry is that guy

Our defense wasn't terrible. We just couldn't stop the run. Or the pass. Or the runs after the reception.

The season isn’t over but AH is. The scheme today was absolute garbage. That kid is good but not that good. Jacas has regressed. Bailey has regressed. Our Dline is nonexistent. The team arm tackles all the time, even when its 3rd and goal and you just need to keep them out of the end zone. What is frustrating is this was an entirely winnable road game at halftime.

Fortunately, bend but don't break d should be good enough in the next couple games. Do we face any more scrambling qb's? Combining contain only (no pass pressure) with soft d has been a struggle for us.

Yes someone else needs to assume the defensive coordinator position immediately. Should have been done after last year.

How about the times our defense is looking at the sidelines looking for play call while the ball is being snapped.

First off - While individual games can be disappointing and discouraging, I will never (well at least in the next decade plus) be pissed off with an 8-4 or 9-3 season. A 10 win season followed by and 8 or 9 win season? Heaven. Didn't think it was possible. I don't need/demand national championships. All I've ever wanted was "gimme a bowl game 3 out of every 4 years."

I just want that stated upfront when I say the following. That was one of the most horribly coached games I've seen in a long long time. The defense was an abomination. Insane strategy. Poor execution. Bad discipline. UW dropped a 3rd down pass which would have been an easy first down. That was the only "stop" of the game. Henry coached scared. He didn't do anything to try and get pressure. Not once. He was scared of Williams running and he let him sit back and pick us apart. The worst part is the D looked disinterested. They looked like they were going through the motions. Just appalling how bad everything on that side of the ball was from top to bottom.

And look, I get it probably doesn't change anything, but 32 seconds, 3 timeouts at your 34 and you run out the half. You just furiously got back in the game, and you throw up the white flag because you're scared of making a mistake? I'm a judge the process not only the results guy. You can make the worst decision in the world and get lucky; you can make the best decision and fail. Either way, I'm still going to judge the decision first. And not meaningfully trying to at least get in FG range at the end of the half was a HORRIBLE decision.

Finally, the DL is a joke. This was supposed to be one of the strongest units coming in to the year, and they have been bad all year, but today was a new level of incompetence. They were absolutely invisible the entire game.

Finish 3-1 or 4-0 and I'll still be happy with the season. But today was a bad look, not simply because they lost, but because the coaching staff seemed inept and overmatched.

I’m concerned that the excellent DB development and production narrative that we had coming into this year will lose most of its credibility in recruiting after the play of our secondary this year as well as DC scheming. Blegh.

The fact that Bret even entertained the question of him calling the defense(even though he said he has too many responsibilities to do it) should tell you guys a lot

At this point Henry should just do the George Costanza and do the opposite of what he would normally do. I’m sure he’s a good guy but he’s struggling very bad right now as a dc. I get we lost a stud in X but we’ve had plenty of time to make adjustments. If he’s back next year then we need to have someone with DC experience on the staff.

What happened to the guy on here who was defending Ahen and said no one on here knew football. Dude was trying to say Ahen was doing a great job.

Just got home from the game - I did leave 8 minutes early... Defense is S L O W ... Cannot tackle... and is really BAD ! ! ! We need to get faster, bigger and better players.... Stadium is beautiful... great venue... My first actual attendance of an Illinois football game in 35 years... and we LOST ...

I’ve learned in my many years of being an Illini fan (and really just my many years of life), that talk is cheap. Being pissed is easy

Do something about it. Then it’ll tell me something.

Yep. He had 3 different chances to respond to questions with some version of "Aaron is my defensive coordinator and I have full confidence in him" or heck even coach-speak "we need to look at the film" and instead talked about whether or not he needs to get more involved each time.
