I’m old and sometimes I forget things but it seems we have set a record for in season terminations in the college ranks. NFL has its black Monday. Here lately every Sunday is a black Sunday for college coaches.
Record low amount of firings last year. Still many hot seats that haven't been decided yet.

Teams with coaches in place could REALLY rake up the recruits/transfers this off-season. Hopefully we have the financial backing to do so. Certainly a TON of talent will be heading to the portal....and we have a TON of playing time to fill.

In defense of A Henry...Illinois did play 3 top offenses in Washington, Ohio State and Indiana, two of them on the road...which can skew comparative defensive stats. I'll leave it up to more knowledgeable posters to determine if Henry is subpar or defensive talent level is a big factor.

We weren’t competitive in two of those (IU & Wash) & in the 3rd you always knew every big down we would lose it to OSU. Duke cut through the defense like butter and so did USC in a game when we just needed one or two stops to win. Thanks to Luke we won those games. Next year we won’t have him.

Henry wasn’t very good last year either (outside the SC game which looks like a fluke). Big turnovers in the Kansas and Neb games, Mich had an anemic offense but if you took care of the ball like Rutgers did we were vulnerable. It’s turnover or bust for Henry and the jig is up.

4-USC is top 10 as well.

You can fairly make that assertion when it comes to PPG, Stop rate, yards, etc being skewed high. Some of those statistic based rankings have us 90th to 100+ and last in the B1G.

However, Defensive FPI still has us at #66. That is because it is weighted for who you play ....so the harsh reality is....we are below average.

SC also had a new oc for the bowl game. I doubt he will have a job after this season

The question with Henry is how much does team ssuccess lighten Bret's view of the defense. Meaning let's say we theoretically win out and get to 9-3... the defense stays as it is - not great - but we win. Is that going to be enough to move the needle?

He's 100% gone. If not now, then after the Alabama game. Everyone at LSU has turned on him, like with Franklin. No amount of staff changes can fix that for a dead man walking
Yep, just delay/refuse to quit/settle pocket and walk away with an extra $10M+. The man may or may not know football, but certainly is good at separating people from their money...

Could we also see Steve Sarkisian to the Titans? Guy is wanting another re-working of his contract and could Texas be ready to move on (not fire but maybe not up his $$ and make way for Sark to bounce) if they miss the playoffs? Idk the rumors are out there, though.

Auburn is lukewarm on Hugh Freeze if he isn't just plain out on the hot seat.

Wisconsin seems inevitable to open up.

Nebraska could lose Rhule. (I don't see it but their is legitimate buzz still that he is on PSU's shortlist)

Purdue may lose Barry to OK St--At least Barry should consider it IMO.

Washington may lose Jedd Fisch to Florida (or another opening)

Just an insane amount of possible openings in one coaching cycle.

If’s and but’s. What evidence have we seen with Henry to expect this to happen?
I would guess our defense looks better to finish out the season bc of the competition we will be playing. What concerns me is we use the "improvement" to justify going into next season with no defensive changes, and then we suck again when we play anyone with a competent offense.
