I thought about that last night. A combination of Z’s and Mirks. Davis will be completely squeezed out. Can Brad play nine and keep everyone happy?Once healthy what will Ty’s role be? Who will he take minutes from?

Toppin didn’t really give himself free throw opportunities with his shot attempts. He attempted and made a bunch of difficult semi hook shots, he slashed to the rim several times and we olayed with our defense. We just didn’t fouls much last night though I’m sure there was a little home cooking involved. Seems like there always is.I would like to see how many drives to the rim they had, because their offense was give the ball to toppin or let anderson take some deep shots. And when our defense is try to keep the ball out of toppins hands, but when he gets it, just let him score, that's how you get the discrepancy.
The surprise double of Toppin caused a few turnovers. We wouldn't have seen that wrinkle last year. Cam has already made an impact.Having a real defensive coordinator seems to have made a difference.
What other two games are you inventing? Illini led the other two games by 50 with 10 minutes to go and put in the walk on.Great first half. Looked a little out of sorts at times in the 2nd half. That is 3 games in a row, Needs to be addressed. Stok has got it all, Boz is our leader, Keaton is hard to handle, and Big Z defends the rim.
My one Big disappointment was defending Toppin. He is without a doubt a great player but the Illini had absolutely no answer. Boz played him the best. I guess from my point of view everyone in the gym knew he was going to the right so why didn't we over play him and make him go left time and time again.
We are going to see a lot of good Bigs from other teams so Brad needs to come up with an answer.
Great win against a very good Tech team. An early season test that shows us this team may be good.
Not disagreeing about the lack of assists, but for me it’s a real positive that a very good team forced Illinois out of its comfort zone offensively and they still found a way to score 81 points and win. That’s a MAJOR positive, because I don’t think that many teams will do that to Illinois this season.Your post isn't a positive thing. Those stats will get us beat most nights, just not tonight. I'm sure Brad isn't thrilled about it because it means the offense wasn't run how it was intended. No coach draws up 24 unassisted baskets.

I appreciated that last night booty ball wasn't ever said. Please let it die.Two observations:
1. There isn't that much difference, eye-test wise, between what Riley & Jakucionus gave us and what it seems Wagler might give us.
2. We've even got booty-ball potential again with Mirk.
A given! Tomi’s fit is obvious in the front court. We need him back. Ty is also a guy that just fits because of what he brings. I’m more-so curious about the other guys. I * think * Petro is really good. If he’s for real, that’s your Curbelo-role 6th man PG. Lee was quietly good in the exhibitions. I’m assuming there won’t be a ton of minutes to go around at this point and wouldn’t be surprised at all if he doesn’t play much, but like, what if Lee is good enough to earn bench minutes? Can you sit him if he’s steady enough to provide a couple buckets a game and competent D off the bench? It’s just an embarrassment of riches.…and Tomi?
I had the same thought. Has to include offensive rebounds and/or turnovers, Felt like Toppin was about as efficient as you can be short of Laetner vs UK.I dont pretend to understand these stats but we had 3 players with a higher ORtg than Toppin?
Was just going to post a shout-out to Ben. Thought he played pretty well last night. Still a question mark with his shooting night to night (think he was 1 for 5 or 6), but played tough on D and also rebounded pretty well. Think he doubled up Mirk in that category in 10 or so fewer minutes.I didnt post last night because it was straight to bed after getting home but what a game and a great atmosphere! Crowd was pretty loud from the jump and it seemed the players responded. A lot of nervous energy in the 2nd half when TT went on their run but it got loud again to help them get it going.
Kylan was a little messy at times on offense but man if this dude isn't a leading candidate for DPOY then people aren't actually watching. Also shout out to Ben for being REALLY DAMN GOOD on that end of the floor too. He cut off drives, he played in the post, and he rebounded like a maniac.
As someone mentioned previously, turnovers go into that stat as well. He had six turnovers which is like just skipping your turn at bat and taking the out. Analytics are cool, but it's necessary to have correlating data points to provide context.I had the same thought. As far as the Illini I couldn’t be more excited about this team - when fully healthy we’ve got a starting lineup of 5 (possible) NBA pro’s. And haven’t even seen what Petro/Lee can do yet. Add in the recruiting and the future looks incredibly bright.
Fixed. That game took nearly a full bottle of bourbon.
7 posts just about a girl that you dont even know but are claiming dibs on seems a little excessive especially for a married man. Anyway I'm not the board police so carry on, the future is indeed bright for this team.
