I would like to see how many drives to the rim they had, because their offense was give the ball to toppin or let anderson take some deep shots. And when our defense is try to keep the ball out of toppins hands, but when he gets it, just let him score, that's how you get the discrepancy.
Toppin didn’t really give himself free throw opportunities with his shot attempts. He attempted and made a bunch of difficult semi hook shots, he slashed to the rim several times and we olayed with our defense. We just didn’t fouls much last night though I’m sure there was a little home cooking involved. Seems like there always is.

Great first half. Looked a little out of sorts at times in the 2nd half. That is 3 games in a row, Needs to be addressed. Stok has got it all, Boz is our leader, Keaton is hard to handle, and Big Z defends the rim.
My one Big disappointment was defending Toppin. He is without a doubt a great player but the Illini had absolutely no answer. Boz played him the best. I guess from my point of view everyone in the gym knew he was going to the right so why didn't we over play him and make him go left time and time again.
We are going to see a lot of good Bigs from other teams so Brad needs to come up with an answer.
Great win against a very good Tech team. An early season test that shows us this team may be good.
What other two games are you inventing? Illini led the other two games by 50 with 10 minutes to go and put in the walk on.

Last night they won without their best big against arguably the best big in the country when TT couldn't miss in the second half. They aren't going to see many other bigs like Toppin, and when they do they will be adding at least 2 more post defenders to the rotation.

Your post isn't a positive thing. Those stats will get us beat most nights, just not tonight. I'm sure Brad isn't thrilled about it because it means the offense wasn't run how it was intended. No coach draws up 24 unassisted baskets.
Not disagreeing about the lack of assists, but for me it’s a real positive that a very good team forced Illinois out of its comfort zone offensively and they still found a way to score 81 points and win. That’s a MAJOR positive, because I don’t think that many teams will do that to Illinois this season.

I did my morning wake & bake as usual and then dove into any and all pod casts this morning to gauge what the pundits thought of our magnificent victory last night.............I hoped they would put the same value as I have about our win this early in the season over the # 11th ranked Red Raiders.......And I have been rewarded with a resounding chorus of praise on our poise , great D and how we withstood TT hitting 12 straight shots to erase our 13 point halftime lead but we didn't whither on the vine but braced our spine and took it to them down the last 8-10 minutes of the game.....

Stoya was $$$$ in the bank with an assortment of shots worthy of repeated playback video to truly appreciate his talent and how he played considering how much time he has missed with his injury......

Make no mistake , this was a complete team effort and win with even Jaksyst (sp) getting some time in the first half........it's very difficult to not get overhyped about this team , but we are so talented from top to bottom that this MIGHT be our best chance to win that elusive modern era Natty.......

when Ty , Petro , Lee and Tomi are fully recovered and ready to contribute on the court that should give opposing coaches and players some sleepless nights after going over their scouting reports........

What a great win on national TV even though the scUMmy scUM stole 8-9 minutes with their uninspiring play against a middling end of standings ACC foe.....................just more dislike I have for that place if I needed anymore fuel for that fire.....

I can't wait for our next game........I really really can't.................

McCasland also said in the post game that prior to putting Boswell on JT, we were basically just letting him score when he either slashed or got a deep catch, because JT finishes with contact so well that the alternative is you try and contest those shots and end up giving up a bunch of 3 point plays and have guys foul out. Gave credit to our staff and Kylan for the adjustment.

…and Tomi?
A given! Tomi’s fit is obvious in the front court. We need him back. Ty is also a guy that just fits because of what he brings. I’m more-so curious about the other guys. I * think * Petro is really good. If he’s for real, that’s your Curbelo-role 6th man PG. Lee was quietly good in the exhibitions. I’m assuming there won’t be a ton of minutes to go around at this point and wouldn’t be surprised at all if he doesn’t play much, but like, what if Lee is good enough to earn bench minutes? Can you sit him if he’s steady enough to provide a couple buckets a game and competent D off the bench? It’s just an embarrassment of riches.

The big discrepancy in assists was because Toppin had 15 baskets from inside 3 ft. Someone got an assist for throwing him the ball. How could anyone make a post on the game and say nothing good about the Illini.

That flagrant is an example of why sometimes I wish replay just didn't exist. Once those go to replay, it's like they try to find a reason to call it a flagrant. Flagrant is for breakway hard foul type of plays or other "dirty" plays. Not a common foul that happens commonly in end of half/end of game scenarios.

That call screamed Tx Tech + 3.5 on DraftKings.

I didnt post last night because it was straight to bed after getting home but what a game and a great atmosphere! Crowd was pretty loud from the jump and it seemed the players responded. A lot of nervous energy in the 2nd half when TT went on their run but it got loud again to help them get it going.

Kylan was a little messy at times on offense but man if this dude isn't a leading candidate for DPOY then people aren't actually watching. Also shout out to Ben for being REALLY DAMN GOOD on that end of the floor too. He cut off drives, he played in the post, and he rebounded like a maniac.

Was just going to post a shout-out to Ben. Thought he played pretty well last night. Still a question mark with his shooting night to night (think he was 1 for 5 or 6), but played tough on D and also rebounded pretty well. Think he doubled up Mirk in that category in 10 or so fewer minutes.

I had the same thought. Has to include offensive rebounds and/or turnovers, Felt like Toppin was about as efficient as you can be short of Laetner vs UK.
As someone mentioned previously, turnovers go into that stat as well. He had six turnovers which is like just skipping your turn at bat and taking the out. Analytics are cool, but it's necessary to have correlating data points to provide context.

Its gotten a little creepy my guy
Ha! Just going for a laugh looks like I got another one. Happily married lol.

As far as the Illini I couldn’t be more excited about this team - when fully healthy we’ve got a starting lineup of 5 (possible) NBA pro’s. And haven’t even seen what Petro/Lee can do yet. Add in the recruiting and the future looks incredibly bright.

I saw some shades of last year with lazy threes early in the shot clock, but for the vast majority of the game, I saw a completely different team. We wanted to get to the basket, especially after the 3s stopped falling.

Andrej is a better version of Tre and helped us tread water when TTU made their run and then to pull away at the end.

Ben looks completely different. His help defense and aggressiveness on both sides of the floor are much better. After last season, I couldn't be happier for him.

Wagler has looked so good, and kept it going against a great team.

Just a lot of fun to watch! It's crazy to think that we were down two starters as well. Crocker already earned his spot after seeing the changes made in guarding Toppin.

7 posts just about a girl that you dont even know but are claiming dibs on seems a little excessive especially for a married man. Anyway I'm not the board police so carry on, the future is indeed bright for this team.

I haven’t read through all the posts yet to see if this was answered, but no one called him unplayable. The original poster asked the question thusly, “Playable?”. It was a question that got taken out of context. I guess the implication was there, but again, no one called Stoya unplayable.

I missed that one. Was that also stated by the same opinionate offering "stojakovic is unplayable"?
