Haven't seen everyone play yet, but I'll confidently declare that we look the best overall in the Big Ten so far, with maybe MSU next (but I think Tech would handily beat Arkansas, personally). I think Michigan is going to be like a better version of our squad last year, where some days they look elite and others they look like a disjointed mess. I'll also go ahead and say that I genuinely think Iowa will be entering the top 25 at some point and will knock off some good teams ... and as much as I hate them, I welcome that for the rivalry!

I’d prefer Iowa to lose every single game lol

Agree. I also think Indiana looks much better than I thought.

And Purdue of course will be very good but I’m not sold on them as a true conference/F4 contender. People forget they went 13-7 in conference last year, just one game better than us with all of our youth and injuries. And I question the TKR/Cluff fit. Early last year they tried to run 2 bigs and it was clunky. They didn’t really take off until they surrounded Smith and TKR with 3 shooters. Cluff obviously much better than any of their bigs last year but remains to be seen how it all comes together for them. Will find out a lot tomorrow night.

North Texas led Oregon State 59-46 with 6:47 to play.

Not only did they blow the lead, they pulled a Chris Webber in a 64-64 tie with 1 second left, and Oregon State made the tech FTs to win 66-64.
We Beaver fans will take a win any way we can get ‘em. Nice to see some guys step up in second half. 3-0 baby — 2, 3 and 2-point wins. I’m anointing the Beavers the champs of Chicago. Beat UIC and beat North Texas, who beat Loyola-Chicago. Now need to beat the Ducks to be champs of Oregon.

Bama is favored by one on KenPom. The game is in Tuscaloosa but the metrics really don’t like Bama this year

Checks out. The line is listed as Bama -4.5. If home is worth 3 (usually close to that), they'd be favored even on a neutral floor. Should be a great game.

Where do you see an opening line? I don't see one yet, and figured it would be another 5 days or so until we get one

He's referring to Purdue vs. Bama. I don't think there's a line yet for our game against Bama but Kenpom favors us by 6 on a semi-home court.

I know the “correct” thing is to root for the B1G, but for tonight’s Purdue–Bama game, I can't not root for the scenario of Bama beating Purdue, then we beat Bama next week, and suddenly we get to bask in the glorious transitive-property debate of “Is Illinois the best team in the B1G, or the best team in the country?”

At least until we play Purdue in late January (when we prove we're the best team in the B1G).

I root for no college team but the beloved.

If you root for the beloved, there's more to gain from a Purdue win. Although we play both, we have more common opponents with Purdue, where a stronger Purdue would make those more valuable. Probably not much difference, but might be worth something in the metrics. Also, we could play Purdue again in the BTT.

Purdue got smacked a few times last year. Think they get smacked again tonight. I don’t think they can slow down Bama’s guards or athletes. Bama by 15+.

That's the way I look at it. Would prefer our game with Bama get a lot of attention. Then hope Purdue recovers and looks good until we meet them.

I'm with this. A close loss on the road won't hurt Purdue and gives our matchup more sway. Watched Bama highlights from St. John's we should outsize them at most spots(especially front court) and should crush the boards. Their guards are very quick/great shooters which will likely give us problems. Will be interesting to see how each team approaches each other. Getting to scout this Purdue game should be very useful for us.
