Mirkovic is just that dude.
I was excited for him when I watched him at the Nike Hoop Summit, and I felt he could contribute immediately. But no way, no how did I think he’d be anything close to this good, this early.

The staff did some type of job identifying Mirkovic and Wagler.

Pretty much everything they did in this game worked other than shooting. Maybe better shot selection on order? But they did everything else right. Coach wasn't happy with their defense but they still kept them under 70.

I think last year we arrived at a consensus that Fletch was not responsible for our three point woes.

I believe it's time to look at the dietician.

Dismiss what Mirk did last night at the risk of sounding basketball tone deaf.

I encourage you to take a glance at the list of Illinois players over the last 50 years that didn’t have a night like that.
Kofi, Deon, Cook, Battle, Liberty, Augie, Winters, Johnson, Anderson….

All of them played cupcakes.

And idgaf if you’re playing Division III G, Florida A&M University of Elf On A Shelf Placement, that’s one of the most incredible nights in Illinois Basketball history.

Weatherspoon got his against DePauw. They are a D3 program. Not exactly Colgate. And Spoon was awesome - at least from what little
i remember from back then.

I was there, too, but heck if I can remember it now. I barely remember who was on last year’s team.

I think BIG freshman of the year is a high, but achievable goal for Mirkovic. But with these awards you always have to look out for good players on bad teams taking your spot.
Way too early to predict or project, but I wonder if Wagler and Mirk would split the vote so neither wins and someone else edges them out. Or is there some kind of voting safeguard to prevent such scenarios, that is, a situation where two players from one team split the vote.

Have there ever been co winners?

Never been more frustrated with a 20 point win where we scored over 80. Guys clearly were just going through the motions trying to practice stuff and not hurt themselves for Alabama.

Just gonna forget it and move on.
I’ gonna give pushback here.

I’m thrilled. This was the definition of a trap game. We just walloped the #11 team in the country. We were bound to have a let down. If a 20 pt. win against a Div-1 team is disappointing, you must want 40 point wins every game.
