As the only Bama/Illini fan on the board I am probably the only one that has watched both teams play every game so far. If Bama plays like they did on the road in Madison Square Garden against St. Johns, they beat Illinois. If they play like they did against Purdue, Illinois wins a close game.

IMO no way does Illinois beat Bama handily.
So it’s independent of how Illinois plays?

Illinois should be favored in this game.

We'll be top 5 if we beat Bama and KU beats Duke. We'll jump Michigan and also Arizona who will lose to UCONN.

The most important thing about these polls is that when you have a top 10 win the SAME WEEK as all the other games, you'll have a significantly higher likelihood of jumping teams that lost or won playing lower competition. Reason we finished #8 or not 10 or 11.
If we managed to beat Alabama AND UConn, man, we'd really be cooking.

It will be a close game but I think our depth will win the day.

Prolly just me, but I watched Bama vs St Johns and was not that impressed by either.
Good teams/players? Yes.
But I think we play a better team game / are more in tune with each other than either of them.
Shooting? We have had a recent lapse, but otherwise I think we are better there, too.
Our D was a questionmark to me before TTU, but I am satisfied we are solid enough, and getting better.
I should clarify that by "handily" I did not mean a 30 pt blowout - rather a solid 10 pt win that isn't a nailbiter.
JMVHO, of course, especially since these are college kids, not seasoned pro's.

I've watched 2 Alabama games so far against st John's and against Purdue.i really think if were going to win this game were going to have to run them off the 3pt line they might be the only team in the country that likes shooting 3s as much or more then we do.there guards are really quick to.my prediction illini front court feast on there's and we win this game because of our offensive rebounding. Good guys 93- 87

Obviously it's the final ranking that matters way more than the season high, as even our mediocre-to-bad 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015, etc. teams show that anyone can break into the polls for a week or two. However, getting into the top 10 usually indicates you're on track for a very successful season (2013 being the somewhat bizarre exception, haha).

Counterpoint - they're 63% on 2pt shots (#28 in country) and 33% on 3s (#175). A lot like us last season in that they like taking a lot of 3s, but maybe they shouldn't like it that much. Maybe the goal should be to force them to live or die by the 3 (I'm not advocating giving up uncontested looks though).

Wow that is true holy crap I should of looked that up before I posted that😅🤣😂.Hopefully our length can affect there shots i know they love to run fast break and quick movement definitely has to help with there 2pt %.its definitely going to be a good game and good measuring stick to see how we fare against a fast team.I agree we might be best letting them live or die by the 3 we just cant leave them open contest everything make them work for every basket and rebound

I know this isn't the coaching carousel thread, but knowing the above it just makes no sense to me how there are some that will call for us to move on from Brad after a bad loss or a recruiting miss.. do you not remember???

St. Johns did not defend like Purdue did. They also do not have the BIGS that Purdue throws out there. Purdue used 3-4 different BIGS 2 of which were 7'0. Alabama was not used to seeing that. We are big but if Tomi is not in, that is a little less cumbersome to deal with.

I mean big Z has more length then tomi and is better shot blocker. However tomi is the better player I really hope hes back sooner then later and especially with the article I posted the other day after the Colgate game said big Z is having some knee swelling from a previous surgery he had.i agree the more length and size we can throw at them the better not just for defense but for rebounding seems like they get alot of 2nd chance points from missed 3s if we can keep them from getting loose balls and long rebounds will go a long ways toward a win for us

Purdue also played at an extremely slow pace to take Bama out of their game. Will we be willing to do that?

Have watched some of Bama, and they pass the eye test for me. As many 3s as they take, it's partly about how well they're shooting. As others have said, if we had everyone, I'd be a lot more confident, but with injuries, I'm expecting a hard fought game.
