Question for any "insiders", anybody we're watching at the KB TOC in Washington worth going to see this week?

Hope it was a good $ decision

I like the decision so far to pivot from Sarr to Andrej

Sarr is a fine player, but the production hasn't been there this season (certainly not for the reported $3M price tag)... 8 ppg 4 rpg 1 apg in 20 mpg

Even moreso if we get two years out of Andrej.

There is no benefit if you’re a player of Morillo caliber to signing early …

If he signs early, great … If he doesn’t, great …

Guys like Morillo would be better off to wait to sign until they can see what roster is going to look like … What their role might be … The role they hear about in the fall could look a lot different come spring …

Also - signing means nothing anymore … All these kids get let out of NLIs all the time anyways … It’s just a piece of paper … Gotta get em on campus and enrolled …

O told me he isn’t concerned and if he ain’t concerned … No one should be …

This program is in a place where if he comes … Great … If he doesn’t, we will go get someone just as good or better …

And man is that a fun place to freaking be …
I was surprised to see Morillo signed in the early period I was thinking he wait like you said

would it be more correct to say he wanted more $$$ than Illinois was willing to offer?
Wouldnt it be most correct to assume that conversations on a message titled "Illinois loyalty dot com" are all in respect to Illinois, unless stated otherwise?

wanted too much $$$
Ked hinted on IlliniGuys that his asking price was 2 million +.

If that's true or not? Who knows.
But to pay that to a Freshmen vs a proven transfer like Andrej? Seems nuts. Though...college basketball seems to be shifting back to the 5 star freshmen with Koa, Darryn, Boozer, etc..

One strong class doesn't make a trend though. Too much variance from year to year to say anything general about impact freshman other than they can happen sometimes. Impact upperclassmen is ALWAYS a thing though.

Right.

Coming off the year where 5th year seniors are all but non-existent? Seems like a fair thing to point out

Andrej is interesting player. Somewhat like DeMarcus DeRozan throw back mid range game.

Great scorer. Question is can he adapt his game to make others on the team better like Marcus Damask. We rarely see Andrej kick the ball out to open 3 point shooter. Once he puts his head down he is like TSJ going to the hoop to score or draw the foul.

We are better than last year but still don't get enough easy fast break baskets. David Mircovic gives us the first element which is get the defense rebound and throw an outlet pass. We just need somebody to fly down the court and take the ball to the basket. TSJ was one of the best on his one man fast break. I was inspired by Andrej' fast break dunk vs Alabama. Andrej needs to add this to his game.

Agreed, we are not playing as well as a group as we did before Andrej. Hopefully we can grow

I think that is as much Kylan struggling to run the offense.

Crazy how good the offense looked immediately when Petro came in.
I agree. Everyone seems to stand around when you go to isolation. The question isn’t whether Andrej can score, the question is can we win when he does. I will take time to come together, just don’t want to lose the Mirko energy at any point. Double digit rebounds go a long way.

If Petro is going to run the point a lot as this season progresses -- and it certainly looks like he will -- how Kylan adapts is going to determine how successful the Illini will be. He complemented KJ well last year, so it shouldn't be a problem but Petro's style is different than KJ's game.
When Kylan is aggressive in getting to the rim as well as looking for his 3-point opportunities, the offense really flows and puts so much pressure on the defense. He turned it on late against Alabama, but looked really passive on offense the first half and again last night. I'm assuming it's growing pains as the injured guys are being implemented, but the Illini need full-bore Kylan at both ends of the floor to get where they want to go.
