After the loss to Arizona, Hurley ripped up the stat sheet and said it will wake him up at night like a nightmare.

After the loss to Alabama, Underwood said he appreciated playing in a big stadium in front of a lot of fans and the program's back. After we lost.

One has won two national championships. One made the Elite Eight once. A lot of media people said the fashion show should've happened before a buy game because normally you can only have this much fun before a game when you're sure you'll win or you're sure you'll lose. And a game against UConn isn't one you're sure you'll win so where does that leave us?

Link(s)?

I believe you, I want to read all of the articles you're talking about

Edit: man, I’m googling my *** off over here and have found nothing on this :(

Only thing I found was this Bleacher Report article saying if we win the fans will make sure he wears it before every game:

Edit 2: Found another further down in search results… Writing Illini article says it’s fun/hilarious and makes for a fantastic recruiting tool:

So where are the articles/media that are viewing this negatively? Those are the ones I’m trying to find!

“Fashion show” they wore track suits instead of the usual sweats?

Over/under on how many feet he steps out onto the court while Illinois is trying to run its offense without getting T’d up?

I’ll set the line at 6.5
Over.

And is there really consternation over this “photo shoot”?

As far as I could tell the media team took pictures of them walking to the plane and another of Brad squatting next to a wall before the flight.

They aren’t robots…was someone supposed to carry them to the plane while they poured over game film on an iPad? All while being sure to wear something that screams “don’t worry, I’m not having fun, I’m mentally ready for this game”?

Mountains from molehills…

People just like to completely make up negative stuff, I really don’t understand what enjoyment (or whatever emotion they’re seeking) that people get out of that, but oh well 🤷‍♂️

It’s a mental hedging defense mechanism.

If I complain about something and it doesn’t go my way, I’m justified in my complaint. It’s guarding against the trust fall style of relationship that college sports truly requires.

Our fan base (somewhat justifiably so) has a TON of it. We’ve been through the wringer. Probably a tough behavior for a lot of fans to break considering the dark decade of our somewhat recent past.

Yet I still fail to believe it had anything to do with the coach not taking the game seriously, they just got curb stomped
Ah, I see where you were going. Apologies. I think BU takes all games seriously, but he has changed a LOT since he first got here. People complained that he was too serious, too loud and too volatile towards his team. Now, he's not serious enough because the theatrics aren't there?

It's why these coaches should stay away from social media and message boards. He'll be never get around criticism.

Hope the team is prepared and will come ready to play hard. Also, Dan Hurley is a crazy person and his craziness works with his team.

Latulip needs to be a head coach somewhere. Kid is the real deal, would love to see him on the coaching staff for Illinois or even head coach someday.

Yeah he definitely has seemed to have lightened up the last couple of years… maybe coaching Matt Mayer just broke the guy lol

Two of their better players haven’t played lately, so that does impact their results

I’m all for the content … But our guys better come into this game mentally freaking ready … Enough with this slow start BS … This ain’t UTRGV … This isn’t f’ing NYC fashion week … This isn’t shopping and sight seeing in NYC … This is a freaking business trip …

Get mentally ready to win … Compete … and Win …

Brad better have these boys ready … 1-3 against Tech, Bama, UConn, and Tennessee doesn’t cut it …

Hurley ain’t f’ing around and his guys will be mentally ready and HUNGRY …
You are exactly right!!! Brad needs to prove he can beat elite teams more than he needs to participating in a fashion show. Team needs to be ready to show up for 40 minutes!!!

Illinois may not win on Friday, but it won’t be because Brad Underwood had some fun wearing an orange tracksuit and funny hat on a flight.

And why does anyone worry about Dan Hurley’s worldview? To paraphrase his own quote, he’s the biggest jerk in the f***ing sport.

Go back through our social media the past, well however long there’s been social media, and you’ll see them post stories of the team with pics of them getting on the plane, at the hotel, etc etc

It’s not like this was any different than the last hundred social media road trip posts, other than Brad had to recreate the AI meme, and why wouldn’t he? It’s hilarious and everyone loves it

Except for a few sticks in the mud 🤷‍♂️
