I want to start by saying I am pretty damn concerned after that UConn game, but I won't rehash that all here. What I want to address is the idea that was thrown around A LOT both in the game and postgame threads - that Underwood "can't beat good teams" or that we don't show up in big games. You can measure this a lot of different ways, but I wanted to show our results vs. NCAA Tournament-caliber teams the last five years. The number next to each team's name is their eventual seed in the NCAA Tournament that year.

So, a couple things.

1) It's obviously hyperbole to say we haven't showed up and defeated good teams during Underwood's tenure. We have TWELVE wins over top 4 seed teams (i.e., those theoretically "Sweet Sixteen caliber") over this period. So, let's not get carried away with painting a negative picture.

2) With that said, there has been a noticeable trend over the past two years (last year and this year so far) where we can put together a good game to beat teams in that 5-9 seed range, but we routinely cannot beat the types of teams who are putting themselves in positions for deep Tournament runs. And that sucks.

I’m not sure if it’s been discussed here much, and I’d love some insight from the guys with knowledge, but I really feel like Ty should play a decent sized role when he comes back. Especially with Davis and Humrichous not hitting any shots.

I feel like it’s mostly the non conference games we’ve struggled more in against top teams. We’ve won our share but the big time non conference opponents like Arizona, Alabama, Tennessee, UConn etc usually seem to beat us. Hopefully that changes next weekend. I also feel like Brad just lets the guys play in those games and hopes they kinda figure it out on their own in order to learn as a team together. I wish he’d do more true coaching in these games. Maybe I’m totally off but that’s how it feels sometimes.

I mean the NBA All-Defensive teams over the past idk how many years have featured many Europeans...

The particular ones we have though are subpar defenders (I differ in opinion in that I think they CAN learn / improve there)
The NBA is also full of Euros that can't play a lick of defense. I hope you are right and they somehow learn to play defense or at least improve. But I don't hold out hope for that and I think the coaches should work on the areas that can help offset the defensive inefficiencies.
