Losing juco commits would be tough but idt we really know why they committed. If Bret fires Bart and some guys leave then that’s just something we’ll have to deal with. But, it’s pretty clear that the oline is struggling and we’re losing some commits and battles. Two years ago we had Andrew Dennis (or some name like that) who was a 4-star IOL with offers from MSU PSU and Clemson who then flipped to MSU. We’re struggling in other OT and IOL recruitment battles (which prevents us from building up HS recruits) and our oline has a hard time w protecting Luke and setting up lanes for RBs. At a minimum moving on from Miller is the right move.
Dennis didn't flip to MSU, he enrolled at Illinois for the spring semester, then entered the portal after spring football and transferred to MSU.

After the first two drives, NW was limited to 125 yards of offense. That was not on my Bingo card. For all the trouble in that defensive unit, kudos for finishing relatively strong.

8 wins hits the consensus expectation for the season, even if the losses were ugly. This team was uber frustrating at times and did not completely live up to preseason rankings, but outside of the Madison debacle, handled the teams they were supposed to beat. So grateful to be slightly disappointed in getting 8 wins and a decent bowl game. The floor of the program has been lifted tremendously under Coach B.

And now, it looks like the Duke win could be over a team who makes the CFP. Just a strange season all around.
Does Duke make the CFP if they win the ACC? Top 4 conference champs look like Big 10, SEC, Big 12, AAC (assuming Tulane). Does Duke get in over JMU as #5?

Agree. But fans love firing coaches when their expectations aren’t met.
Just seems crazy to fire a coach after getting 8 wins.
But truthfully, the Illini nation was expected to have a shot at attending a playoff game. I, for one, was disappointed with the result, not the players’ effort this year.

We won and I’m glad about that but I’m not going to miss watching this team when the season is done. Which is strange considering we got at least eight wins and Altmyer will always be one of my favorite players we ever had here. But almost every minute of it has been frustrating. Failing to deliver the satisfying kill shot twice in the final minutes is the perfect encapsulation of that.
It's b/c you have the expectation of a being a perennial top 10-15 team. It's Illinois football. These last two years have been fantastic. I hope they win a bowl game against a quality opponent like last year and keep the momentum going!

I don't mean to be rude, but this is no way to go through life! :)

I'm an Illinois fan. I will never take 8 win seasons for granted. Did I want more this season? Sure. But, also, give me all the 8 win seasons you have to spare. If you don't want 'em, I'll take 'em.

If we win 80 games over the next 10 years, maybe I'll allow myself to dream bigger.

Indiana is playing for a shot at the #1 seed in the CFP. Let that sink in before any “you have unrealistic expectations because we aren’t a perennial top 10” talk starts.

Indiana.

The narrative of “your history should define your expectations” Is over.

I’m thrilled Illinois is 8-4 and playing in a bowl game. I will not criticize people who were expecting them to have a better push at the playoffs.

Fire Henry and fire Miller despite getting commitments from the #1 JC DB in the country and a top 3 JC O-Lineman in the country......good luck with that.

I can't imagine a defensive back committing with no defensive coordinator involvement and I can't imagine an offensive lineman committing without knowing who's coaching the unit.
Is this Mrs. Henry?

Pretty much where I’m at … my thoughts on the season are quite simplistic and somewhat conflicting, lol.

1) This new vibe was unimaginable before BB got here, and my 30,000 foot view is nothing short of simply thankful. The transformation has been amazing, and I’m happy with 8 wins. I just want to be proud, and I can be.

2) The fact is, this was an amazing opportunity to take even ANOTHER extra step up in the pecking order this year with two 10-win seasons in a row, and it’s patently obvious that the (mostly) inept defense held us back. We didn’t realize our potential this year, even if we should still be thankful.

Why can’t both be true? We are in a place where we should be thankful, but we left a lot on the table.
