He was not “cleared.” A lawsuit was settled with no guilt admitted. Big difference.

Upset with the Caldwell hire, the potential Sumrall hire, or both?
Given Caldwell was not successful or popular at Jacksonville, I can understand Florida fans not being fired up about that hire. But if Kiffin, Cignetti, or MAYBE Franklin isn’t walking through that door, then who is legitimately a better option? At least Sumrall has a demonstrated track record of success over several years and different programs.

Given the Larry Nassar at MSU scandal you'd think there'd be some pause.
There was no damn assault with Fitzgerald, he wasn't even involved. It was hazing. Stuff we laughed at for decades. Now it is taboo, and we're going to pretend it's monstrous.
Now, the particular type of hazing that took place at Northwestern was.....odd. But let's not pretend he's some sort of criminal.

Don’t love that. Part of our rise has been the downturn at Wisconsin and MSU. Even if Fitz doesn’t make them conference and playoff contenders, the middle of the Big Ten where we reside just got a lot more crowded. Our competition for Chicago area recruits too.

Chicago media has a major love affair with Fitzgerald. They would have been very much off brand to bash him even if he had ended up at Illinois.
