Indy, 0440- timeline on a D-coordinator? Any way Henry gets demoted back to position coach or is he gone? I think he provided good skill coaching, just couldn't play call to save his life. Opinions???
it is just about unprecedented for a 3 yr DC to get demoted & remain on staff as a position coach .

I can’t see how that works for AHen and any new incoming DC would be foolish to accept that,

I like Oregon State’s choice for new DC, Maurice Linguist. Don’t know much about him, but he was good enough to get hired as DC at Michigan and smart enough to never coach there as he took the HC position at Buffalo soon after. Sounds like a smart guy to me.

I think Henry is a very good football coach and connects extremely well with his players and is more importantly and great person and demonstrates the values you want on the staff

But at some point you need a new voice and a new approach leading the defense and it’s come to that point if Bret wants to be a CFP team and I know he does. Henry can’t stay on the staff he’s too good of a coach for that and he’ll get other opportunities

Stoops would be a home run if he doesn’t want to take a non P4 HC job. He was making $9M at Kentucky so he’s going to take a step back no matter what. He’s lead some of the nations best defenses as DC at FSU and Arizona so he has the defensive pedigree

Saw somewhere that Stoops buyout has no offset. So unless Stoops and Kentucky negotiate some sort of offset (and I do not see that happening given Stoops’ comments), Illinois may be able to get him for a low as you can get someone of his caliber. I’d imagine it’s a matter of “what’s the lowest offer you’d be willing to accept given you’re still getting 36M from your former employer?”

??
most likely an offset only applies for a HC job in D1 .
in any case, we can pay him whatever and Kentucky owes him the rest up until 9 million. Those often do get negotiated down, to save on time and legal fees. he would be a homerun hire, if only for a year tho

His full buyout is owed within 90 days. He's about to make $411k per day.

His agent is phenomenal.

This is 50% hot take /50% contrarian take:

I'm more invested in a Bart Miller replacement than Aaron Henry
Bert has to give Sam Pittman a call. Absolutely has to. I don't know how their relationship soured, but they had a good thing going at Arkansas and maybe Pittman is burnt out on the SEC.

If we're wishcasting, I want Pittman at OL coach, Mark Stoops at DC and make Liggy Stardust an offer he can't refuse

I'm with you there. Bart has not developed players in his time here and our offense changes dramatically if we can all of a sudden generate push and keep the offense on schedule.

I still think Henry can grow and think that a senior analyst or BB can help him scheme and call the game better, but I won't shed too many tears if he is replaced with a more senior coach.

TL:DR
Miller is a must replace, AHen is a nice to replace at this point.

for miller my pain points are as follows:

1. the best players on last year's offensive line were the transfer tackles who had been with miller the least amount of time
2. we had the same exact players in our starting rotation this year as last year and they were worse
3. recruiting and development of prep players the way we all thought would happen under bielema has been...not great. most of those players we thought would make impacts as redshirt juniors are gone.
