in this day and age, if it’s a financial reason to stay home , then just cancel the program & have a club team & just play Palmer College of Chiropractic and Great Lakes Naval Base

The conferences need to be smarter about their championship games. Miami should have played UVA because that would have made sure the ACC had a spot. Have to be able to flex to do the best for the conference finically rather than who is conference champs based on tie breakers. It is not like the schedules are balanced
Conference championships are now pointless. The Big and Sec championships don’t punish the loser, so what is the point, and the ACC “champion” just let JMU slide in.

For your consideration when evaluating ND’s decision today. There is a bigger picture here. I think a lot of folks on here can get behind somebody giving ESPN a much deserved middle finger.

this take is 100% wrong

I watched 15 mins of ESPN today - it was totally on ND side .

don’t forget ESPN & ACC benefit all year from home games vs ND .

why would ACC keep the alliance if not beneficial to them ?

This would be fair if you also required this of Big 12 and ACC teams, but obviously that is not done. Texas Tech and BYU played a combined zero Big 10 and SEC teams. Miami played one bad SEC team and zero Big 10 teams.
True, and arguably it is not fair. FWIW I think ND is one of the 12 best teams. However as an independent it seems ND may get held to a different standard and the P2 determines the standard so play good P2 teams and beat them. Then ND doesn’t sit in the margins.

I am surprised ND got left out based on where they were in the rankings on Sat. It makes no sense. Was this a case of Miami getting in or ND getting left out by some strong influence on the committee. After what happened today I’m inclined to think it’s the latter.

This is a very easy answer.

ACC does benefit from those games. ACC gets zero benefit from an ND playoff appearance. ACC loses money if ND getting in means it's shut out of the playoff.

my comment was to his assertion it was ND giving ESPN the middle finger

it was no such thing

and yes , ACC does not benefit from ND getting in over Miami . I didn’t comment on that . that is obvious .
ND - ACC football alliance is only about scheduling . nothing more

Why do teams not accept bowl invites? It's 15 extra practices and a chance to see your depth

I long for the days when they wanted to play football.
Maybe they think it would be too expensive. I believe in the last that school needed to sell a certain amount of tickets or they had to pay for them. I can’t see a lot of Rutgers fans wanted to go to Birmingham to play Georgia Southern

I think ND, KSU and ISU look pretty petty.

But I wonder if opting out is playing the long game to push expanded playoffs. Will bowl games outside the playoffs exist in another 5 years?
