I think DeBoer & Freeman are who they are going after . with a heavy emphasis on DeBoer
I get why UM would want those dudes.

DeBoer I could see wanting to leave a place where he could get fired next year for losing 3 games.

Freeman I don't get. Seems like at best a lateral move: similar academic constraints, resources, recruiting, recent success ...and ND has the easier path to the CFP moving forward.

I just think they go after Freeman behind the scenes, but DeBoer is who they really want anyway.
I am not pretending that Freeman would necessarily take it unless the money was insane.
ND is not going to get into a crazy bidding war to keep him.

31 yo staffer. Just recently got a raise from$58k to $90k (supposedly). Now pregnant (rumored). Looks like Moore was desperately trying to put a finger in the dike to keep the lid on. Your side chick is rarely going to be content with being the side chick. Especially when you make $5.5 large. She wanted a bigger piece of the pie and Moore couldn't make that work without Mrs Moore finding out. Side chick gets even by blowing the lid herself. Rinse and repeat. I don't have any more facts than what anyone else has, just repeating what I've read on other sites so take all this info with the proper amount of salt.

Interesting. They just made a big deal about continuing to raise his salary to keep him out of the NFL. I suppose if UM gets silly...

Freeman changed his religion when he became the coach of Notre Dame. I don't think he's going anywhere.

Notre Dame is the bluest of blue bloods. Top 5 in wins all time, top 5 in national championships. What does Michigan have that Notre Dame doesn't? Why change your life for a maybe. And let's not forget, Freeman is an Ohio State game. I'm sure Michigan is not his favorite school in the nation.

I think chances of Freeman going to Michigan are pretty close to 0.

I'd go after Cignetti (he will say no), I'd try Drinkwitz, think he will also say no, then I'd move to Clark Lea. Could be tough given Lea is from Nashville and played at Vandy, but surely he recognizes Michigan is much higher profile than Vanderbilt.

In this day and age, Michigan can no longer just amass way more talent than most of their opponents because everyone can buy players. To me, now more than ever, you need to get a coach that can lead and really knows their Xs and Os.

Not saying this is what will happen, but I’d love to see:

DeBoer to Michigan
Cignetti to Alabama
Kelly to IU

I think I’d trade a bowl win for that sequence to occur. Honestly, I really don’t see what others apparently see in DeBoer. So if he goes to Michigan and Cignetti leaves IU and the Big Ten, that’s a major plus for Illinois.

I dont know what hes making & right now it doesnt matter. lets just say its 9,000,000 for purposes of this discussion
if he goes to the AD and says, " hey UM just made me an offer for 13,000,000 to make me the highest paid coach in college", the AD shakes his hand and shows him the door out.
ND doesnt want him anymore in that situation. I get it . Pretty sure that's what they did with Kelly.

Just spit balling... would there be interest in Wink Martindale as DC? Has he and Bret crossed paths in the NFL?

Yeah it's a possibility.

I got the impression Kelly was sick of ND and saw LSU as a gimme path to a title so wasn't looking for a counter offer.

ND is returning a lot and has a joke of a schedule next year. I think it's more likely Freeman is taking players from UM than money.

Maybe if Deboer leaves for UM Freeman could end up at Bama?

What you're not factoring in is that any team that's going to be losing a coach right now is not deciding between retaining that coach and the raft of options that were available earlier in the cycle. It's retaining that coach vs having to replace that coach with all your best options already off the board. In this scenario, ND will pay whatever it takes to keep Freeman. Bama will probably do the same to keep DeBoer, even though they're not necessarily that happy with him. I don't think UM is getting either of those guys unless they want out of their current situation and it has nothing to do with money (more likely with DeBoer than Freeman).

And then your fantasy about Cignetti going to Bama: Also not happening, for the same reasons he wasn't going to Penn St. or LSU or any of the other open jobs this offseason. If DeBoer goes to UM I think there's a much higher likelihood that Kiffin backs out of LSU and goes to Bama, than Cignetti going to Bama (and it would be the most Lane Kiffin thing Lane Kiffin has ever done).

Are we just pretending that Brian Kelly didn't go to the D2 national title game 3 years in a row, winning 2, turn around CMU in short order, take Cincinnati to an undefeated season, winning the Sugar Bowl and ending up #4 in the nation, finish in the top 12 seven times at Notre Dame, and then started strong at LSU?

Does anyone actually think that after 30+ years of consistent sustained success, he just all of a sudden forgot how to coach?

Yes he seems quite arrogant, he may be hard to get along with, I don't think he's as good as Cignetti, but if you think Brian Kelly as the coach would put Indiana back at the bottom of the conference, I think that's wishful thinking.

Michigan will still come out of this scandal with a rose in it's mouth. Just like the basketball program did after Juwan, the FB program will probably come out stronger with the right coach. Just the advantages of having a history of success, fan support and deep pockets. 🤑🤮

Yet another high character "Michigan Man"
My wife and I were talking about Michigan and MSU's athletics 'issues' in the past few years around integrity and character. I hope that they get things straightened out.

I'm confident Freeman is not going anywhere. ND will do whatever it takes to keep him.

While this whole UM thing has gone crazy over the last...checks notes...20 hours, the bigger conversation around Freeman is the Giants opening.

Freeman is repped by Trace Armstrong, by the way.
