story as old as time

later 30's - early 40's guy gets job as HC at a big school with a bunch of young staffers
notices a hot blond on the staff and meets her for private coffee in his office
she flirts with him, gives him more attention than his wife , meets for a drink somewhere , eventually taking off her clothes with him and does you know what
goes on a for a little while , people in the inner circle notice and then she gets pregnant
she feels guilty , tells a friend that detail, and voila - sh1tstorm happens

Reliably: He appears to have had a relationship with a staffer, while married with kids. Michigan was conducting an investigation into it. Fired him for cause. Unclear why they acted now. The day they fired him, he was arrested. Seems likely this arrest was due to his actions post firing and not something he got fired for. The police were called to the listed address of a female Michigan football staffer, and officers were also sent to Moore's listed address.

Conjecture: The relationship with a staffer appears to have been somewhat of an open secret based on the Michigan thread in Reddit. Multiple accounts said things similar things to “So the rumors were true!” when the news broke. There is further rumor that some form of journalist/media got ahold of the story which forced Michigan to act which is why the timeline is wonky. There are further…darker rumors but we can kind of skip those.
Reputable sources are saying both parties denied an inappropriate relationship when confronted this Summer (I believe). The reason it all broke yesterday is supposedly because the staffer changed her mind & admitted to the affair to the AD & brought receipts receipts. That's apparently what set off the domino events yesterday.

Brian Kelly needs a PR cleanse. Too much stink on him and how he handled his biz at LSU. I think he lands in the media somewhere, for a year or two, can tell a few stories, have a much better platform for cracking few jokes and softening his perceived personality as a prick. Then the old "I'm itching to get back into coaching" will emerge. Frankly, I think he could learn a thing or two about how good programs are run these days, and I could see him visiting programs in the NFL and college, ala Gruden when he was let go. He claims to be tight w/ Belichick (although in my POV it's one way), and I could see him making "one more run" with a program, say in 2028 or so, sort of like Bill has done. It won't be with a top job, however.

SO... a major college football program that has already been found to have cheated over the years employed a college football coach who has now been found to have cheated (in additional ways) over the years as well.

Birds of a feather? Or in terms of quantum physics... you get More Of What You Resonate.

But none of this will bother the big Michigan cult. The 107,000 will still show up every game without a care.

Better to lose every game and keep your integrity than win every game and have – none.

Just to add a bit, per reliable sources it sounds like he was arrested because he showed up to her house and threatened physical harm on her and himself. So like OP said, the arrest had nothing to do with the relieving of his duties.

It sounds like both he and the woman denied continually until yesterday, at which point her story changed and she provided documentation proving as such. I assume that's what made him go off the rails as it cost him his job.

Of course it is a total coincidence that this all blew up after they signed one of the Top 10 recruiting classes in the country

Michigan has always been a mess. Rumors are circulating now that they are upset with the proposed equity deal ( along with USC ). They may be considering leaving the conference.

Good. Let em' go. They did exactly that in 1908 because they did not like certain rules. Or, they may have been kicked out. They returned in 1917. Therefore, I believe, history has shown them to be arrogant and stupid......and it continues to the present.

The B1G would do fine without them. The "we're Michigan" crap ? I don't buy it.

Lotta media running with this:

Who is Paige Shiver? Paige Shiver has suddenly become the focus of widespread online speculation after social media users began connecting her name to the 'inappropriate relationship' that resulted in Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore’s dismissal. Although the University of Michigan has not identified the staff member involved, unverified rumors on social media platforms have suggested Shiver may be connected to the situation. Moore’s administrative assistant went silent on ..

It's all on Moore if he was her boss. Changing her story doesn't matter. We have no idea what was promised or threatened during the course of the relationship.

I think Brian Kelly is a good coach. Maybe a coach more on the downside of his career, but still a good coach.

I also think that Kalen DeBoer at Michigan and Brian Kelly at Indiana is a better situation for Illinois than Curt Cignetti at Indiana. Given the way dominoes could play out, I’d take my scenario. Michigan will be Michigan. But Indiana taking a step back would be a positive for the Illinois program.

I’m looking at what I believe are possible scenarios and thinking about what’s the best interest for Illinois.
I don't think Moore is much of a coach. So to me, a scenario of DeBoer at Michigan and Kelly at Indiana improves Michigan and Indiana still remains in the upper 3rd of the conference. So that overall makes things worse.

Oh we have some idea... huge (near-doubling of salary) raise and promotion from a general AA in the recruiting office to personal EA to the HC, all this year.

Recruiting doesn’t make any sense here though. Not with the way the portal works with a head coach change. The entire Michigan team can enter the portal now if they wanted to and anyone they signed can get out too.

This harms Michigan far more to fire him now than it would’ve harmed them to fire him when the carousel was in full swing other high end coaches were available.

except the true blue bloods look for coaches out of a different fishing hole
- If they wanted DeBoer 10 days ago, I am sure there was back channeling to the agent , telling him to not sign with PSU without giving them a chance first as things were in the works.

Nick Saban retired Jan 10. 2024. Bama had no issues getting DeBoer then, and that was way after the carousel stopped spinning.
I will grant you that Harbaugh retiring in later Jan that year did crimp UM ability to do a nationwide search tho. but that was late Jan

I dont know what hes making & right now it doesnt matter. lets just say its 9,000,000 for purposes of this discussion
if he goes to the AD and says, " hey UM just made me an offer for 13,000,000 to make me the highest paid coach in college", the AD shakes his hand and shows him the door out.
ND doesnt want him anymore in that situation. I get it . Pretty sure that's what they did with Kelly.
The real difference between Kelly and Freeman is Freeman got Nd to the playoffs last season and was probably the last team left out this season.kelly brought talent to Nd but never really succeeded there with more time

Yeah I saw that. Still really a victim in this if Moore was her superior.

Not here but I have seen some absolute cringe posts blaming her on social media.

Will the NCAA open the portal for Mich 26 recruits.. I am even thinking of their 27 recruits.

Yeah, these sort of situations bring out the worst possible reactions in the worst humans.

Since the NIL era, programs have been fairly accommodating to release recruits from their LOI if they want out. Some push for signed recruits to stick around until they announce the new coach and give them the first swing at keeping them committed.

The big loss from the athlete side is everyone committed most of their money to their prep class and are now hoarding dollars for the transfer portal. Programs made many strategic decisions on how many recruits to bring in, how many at each position, plan A, B, or C choices, etc. that have financial implications. For the top guys, they likely cannot replicate the offer they agreed to at Michigan because it takes a lot of capital for top preps and spending it on a freshman means you take less from the portal.

It becomes a painful choice: keep your commitment now and get your agreed-upon NIL package, but the coaching staff is going to look (substantially) different. Or choose a program where there's lots of familiarity with the coaching staff but likely a smaller NIL package.

All that to say, would love for Illinois to somehow end up with Titan Davis and Nathan Marshall instead of Michigan.

Kelly never succeeded at ND? The guy had ND ranked in the top 12 7 times in the last poll over his 12 years there. He also got them in the BCS championship game against 'Bama in 2012. How good was ND after Holtz left?
