Did they say it wasn't true, which I highly doubt any report said that, or because both parties denied it and it couldn't be verfied?

And as it turns out, Michigan did do something. They forced the hand of both parties.

You can't fire the first black football coach in Michigan history because of a rumor. But you can fire a low level staffer. It takes two to get here and she was easy pickins for Michigan to cut loose. They also may told Moore he will be involved in informing her of her discharge. He knew he was cooked (or bleeped) - which started his downward spiral.

That would do one of two things. She goes away or she talks. She chose the latter. Here we are.

And Michigan gets rid of the problem in maybe the best way the possible? Because there was no perfect solution to this problem.
Not to be too cynical, but paying her to come forward with her admission of the relationship is likely alot cheaper than his buyout.

Michigan reporter said this. The so called investigation was AD asking if this happened and bothbsaid no. Then it was reported she fessed up prior ti firing. Also reported another woman sent info about him contacting her thru dms. Kind of wild

CBS Detroit is reporting that W Manuel became aware of Moore’s mental health issues on Sunday. They are also reporting Manuel fired Moore in a “one on one meeting”, and no HR representative present.

Actually brilliant. Exposing the truth clears the table, cleaning house at no cost.
scUM admin is a lot of things, but stupid isnt one of them .
They knew exactly what they needed to do from a $ standpoint to clean this up.
waiting as they did simply tarnishes their integrity, but they obviously stopped caring about that years ago
they are who we thought they were

Many of them aren't stupid. However, Warde Manuel has demonstrated, over a long period, extraordinarily poor attention to detail in managing a staff to vet hires thoroughly. And not simply the rando lower-level athletic dept staffers who have embarrassed the university; he's seriously fouled up hiring and monitoring major coaches (hockey and football). IMO that qualifies as stupidity (and I define that to comprise laziness, arrogance, hubris, and avoidance, as well as dim-wittedness.) The university has an extremely valuable brand and Warde hasn't been a particularly careful steward of it, to be kind.

They'll find a coach (Jedd Fisch?) this month. And then I will be surprised if UM doesn't fire Warde in '26.

[EDIT: It goes without saying that as I read the sordid details of this latest UM scandal, I thank the heavens above for Josh.]

Someone should ask our insiders here - In the last 5 years, has any Illinois coach had non-marital sex with another University of Illinois employee?

uhhhh yes. multiple of our coaches have had the same rumors go around. These coaches aren't brainiacs and most (especially assistants) don't have plans to stay at a place for more than 2-3 years. Happens everywhere.

Head coach? Probably not. But, with the number of assistants in the program, my money is on at least one having non-marital with at least one University employee. Especially the non-married assistants.

IMHO, the exec.asst. Should be held accountable too. Saw a female attorney on one of the news shows this morning stating she is going to get a big payday for all of this. It takes two to tango, and she knew Moore was a married man with a family. Unless there is evidence that he would fire her if she didn’t comply with him she is just as culpable.

Speaking generally about college coaches, it's interesting that fired or leaving coaches are frequently discussed with rumors of sleeping around, but those rumors only pop up once their exit is imminent.

Either you can believe that most of these rumors are smear campaigns or it's a much-bigger issue than being publicly reported and it's kept quiet until the coach wants to leave or will be fired. Choice is yours.

I've gotta say, Warde Manuel has in impressive rap sheet : Michigan's long list of scandals under Manuel

At what point do UM Alums care enough about the integrity of their institution?

As said earlier, we are fortunate to have such high integrity leadership in our Athletic Dept. In Whitman We Trust :)

Seeing a lot of press pitchforks coming out for him the last 24 hours. Seems like the alums are starting to care, or will have to care, now.

UM fans have been very vocal on their disdain for Warde since Juwan's tenure started to sour.

most people’s issues with how they handled it was timing . had they beaten OSU in The Game , and made it into cfp, this would still be not out until thr season was over .

since they lost to OSU, they waited until after signing day .

they lose credibility doing things as they do
Again…purposefully waiting to fire him until after signing day doesn’t do anything. Every single one of those signees, regardless of when they fire Moore, is free to leave, just as every single player on that roster is free to leave. Signing day is irrelevant here. If Michigan was 100% that this activity was occurring, then they completely botched the timing of this firing, if anything. But, they’re also Michigan so they have a lot of inherent resources to significantly reduce the impact.

I understand all that . but all things equal , it’s still better to fire him 3 days after signing day vs 3 days before. just saying .

don’t for a minute believe that they “just found out for sure on Monday Dec 8th “ this was happening .
they knew it was happening months ago , but waited until they knew that had a rock solid cause for dismissal that would hold up in civil court .
thats all. it’s always about the money
