Though he might be eligible, this kid is not playing till next season.
While probably true, the issue people have is the fact that he is actually allowed to play immediately. It's more just annoyance with the rules (or lack there of) rather than us or this guy

For whatever it’s worth we’re getting universally clowned on Reddit for bringing him in mid season
I think most people there are sort of lamenting the state of the sport rather than digging on Illinois specifically.

It's all rather alarmist, and Illinois is not the problem here. The NCAA refusing to commit to making players employees with collective bargaining rights is absolutely the problem.

It’s crazy that this would even be an unpopular opinion but it is unfortunately with our fan base. Heck we could use a Tre White - he’s outperforming Ben by leaps and bounds this season.
He sure is offensively, but Ben's defensive numbers are head and shoulders above White's. That having been said, Tre is having a great season so far for Kansas, could have been a nice piece for the Illini this season.

Isn’t Tre the one that has played for 7 different schools in 7 seasons going back to HS? Seems difficult to blame anyone for him transferring to Kansas.

I find it hard to assume that he is coming in to make an impact this season with the glut of talent we have sitting on the bench and that have been in the system. My guess is that he is being brought in to get acclimated to the system, the country, college and will have a full off-season to prep for next year. Brad's got an open roster spot, so why waste it? Gives them a chance to also better evaluate and can make any correction if needed.

I’m all for the Euros, but can we just recruit a few Dawgs…give me a few athletic 3 and D guys, or someone who wants to tear the rim down every time they go to the hoop!
I am reading elsewhere that some people are speculating that Illinois can no longer afford American born players. I think that is sheer nonsense. By the way I totally agree with your viewpoint.

He almost certainly is being brought in as a favor to the agent. He likely will see the court in garbage time only.

If that is the case it seems like a sound move. I have been told that Brad Underwood is a culture guy. If so it would seem to me as a total outsider if he were to get significant playing time that would possibly upset the culture of the team at this point.

What's next, mid-season trades?

If they can recruit G league players with eligibility we can get him to play after the holidays. NCAA basketball is not the same and probably will never be the same. I would assume he got through admissions. Hope he is good and helps out this year.

For real we can quickly put trade packages together.
When is the trade deadline?? Are traded players eligible for post season play after a specific date?? Do some players have no-trade clause rights?? I would assume ncaa and conference commisioners would have to approve such trades? Just asking for some of my friends....
