Further cementing my new insider status my friend said they were both speaking the same language so I'm guessing she might have come with him.

"He will practice with the Illini and focus on strength training and development for the remainder of this season but will not participate in games."

Ahhh so we do internships now! 😎

No. It has become a pattern especially this year recruiting class. In two years we will be sitting here and playing in the NIT and you guys will all be saying Brad got it wrong. All it takes is misses in the transfer portal. This is 2-3years of heavy Europe recruiting and I don't see any BIG10 or NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SIGHT!!

Starting my portal wish list …

Can’t take either we’ll take another 4 European dudes who don’t play defense.

I mean, last year’s team ended at 17 in KenPom. This one is currently at 13. So it seems to be working fairly well? Will have to see how the season plays out, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this type of team (one that’s had just a handful of practices together) improve as the season goes on.
Not trying to rip on you and I understand that KenPom is a good indicator of real success, but I find it amusing that people cite KenPom ranking as an actual achievement of success. Maybe it is just me, but I look at success as wins, position in conference standings, and how far team goes in NCAAT. I read on here about people being frustrated that Brad has only had one rather deep run in tournament not that Brad hasn’t gotten team ranked high enough in KenPom. OK, done with my mini-rant.

You’re correct that it’s not an achievement, but it’s a better indicator of how good a team is/was than a single elimination tournament that makes up a minuscule portion of a team’s schedule.

I’m unsure he cited it as an achievement per se, he was merely pointing out that the teams were actually very good despite losing a singular game at the end of the season.

I think overall his point was that just because they didn’t make a S16 doesn’t mean the whole team was just crap.

I agree with you. The real gage for success is how far you play into March. KenPom is ok and all but if you have a high ranking and lose in the round of 64 or 32, your ranking really didn’t mean much.

If national championship is your annual expectation, you’ll likely be disappointed annually.

I’m not the expectations guy. I’m the “I enjoy watching my team play each week, especially when we’re nationally relevant, have a few NBA guys, and a chance at a run in March” guy.
To each his own. I expect more from my top institution and the motherland (State of Illinois).

You're absolutely right. And why would they need to do any better in the tournament? Apparently we've got a good percentage of fans who are delighted with the status quo.

Agreed, we have fans who are just satisfied about making the tourney and justify it by saying we are better than we were before Brad got here. A very lame thought process.

My comment was in response to a post claiming that this year’s team is not very good/soft. Because this year is only a third complete and we can’t yet reference total wins, conference standings, or tournament results, I used KenPom to point out that this is team is likely better than last year’s. But obviously, we’ll have to see how the rest of the year plays out. I think I might have even said that in my post? Yep, I said those words exactly.

But hey, if you like wins, Brad sure has provided a lot of those.
