I guess affair technically but according to the article he split with his wife long before this happened.

He was living in a hotel and found a girlfriend. Was there a policy against a University employee dating a student?

Probably not, it happens. Hence the firing on the bourbon since that is against University policy.
Generally speaking, I don’t think it’s kosher whatsoever for a university employee (or at least someone like a coach or professor) to have relations with a student. I know it’s high school and minors compared to adults at a university, but I would be fired and lose my license if I ever had a relationship with a student.

I’d have a hard time believing a university would find it acceptable for the football coach to have a relationship with a student under any circumstances.

The Ohio U coach firing was due to the school finding out he was having an affair with an undergrad student along with issues related to intoxication at a public appearance for the school.

"Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell you I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you people do that all the time."

According to the attorney's response the couple were separated, he was living in the campus hotel and it was an open four month relationship. Also the bottle of bourbon was given to the coach by the ADs husband.

Seems different than Moore and wild because you usually only see ADs develop morals when their coach is losing. Given that Todd Golden still has a job, this seems aggressive.

I HAD THE SCOOP

but i'm still slightly reeling from that one, that's a phenomenal hire. that guy is the reason iowa special teams is so good. prior to his being given the reigns, ferentz was recruiting punters from his backyard and playing for touchbacks in the return game. i think it would be fair to call woods the best special teams coach in the country.

And the whole thing likely began with a tiny scarlet and gray dot on a white Ohio Univ hoodie. Like a butterfly flapping its wings n Brazil...

"I want you outta here by the end of the day."

Ive never defended Fitz for what happened at NW under his watch
I have defended his ability to coach and recruit.
He does have the respect of A LOT of high school and college coaches and this is just another example of that.
He will have MSU competitive WAY faster than Smith would have - hence the AD's decision to can Smith while Fitz was available.

Good luck to him unless they play us or are jockeying for position in the league against us. Would love to see them start to beat scUM again

i guess its a matter of how bad you want to keep a guy but it seems at some point the
administration would say "how bad do you want to stay?"

I'm sure Bret had his reasons for passing over Kane, but I remember being really impressed by his introductory press conference
If I remember correctly, when Walters left it was a choice of who was going to be DC at Illinois and who was going to be DC at Purdue. Neither choice has set the world on fire, but at the time Henry's work with DBs, rep as a recruiter, and youth was seen as plus over Kane.

45 year old Brian Smith dating 18(?) year old student. He did not know she was student when he met her
(but he did not break up as soon as he learned she was).
"Separated" from wife (not divorced it makes you single if you are taking a break)
Living in hotel (where you live makes adultery and dating undergrads OK)
Nobody else has been fired from Ohio Univ. for sleeping with undergrad students (Lots of people do it defense)
----

Hard to believe the attorney can say all this stuff with a straight face. I guess he is comparing himself to Sharone Moore who
1. knew girl was working for him
2. was not separated
3. was living at home during affair
4. Was working at Michigan where there are no morals or rules so he was just fitting in

Either one on its own probably forgivable after a stern talking-to. The two together, I’d be wondering what’s next. They probably felt he was becoming something of a liability and didn’t have confidence it would end there.

People who are connected, why are we seeing more of blue bloods get snubbed lately? Is it coaches not wanting to deal with unrealistic expectations? NIL leveling the playing field?

I can’t stand Michigan, but it’s definitely a top 10 coaching job.
there are certainly some unique issues (bad) kinda unique to Michigan with Warde Manuel at the helm that are scaring some people away.
I still maintain they are after DeBoer & Freeman

In this case ASU is Kenny’s alma mater….they invested more money for him so he’s content staying there….if he was anywhere else I think he’d be at Michigan

Michigan is in a really tough spot. They probably need to fire Warde Manuel and let a new AD hire the football coach. The odds of getting the coach you want are long because the AD situation is a major red flag. But that will obviously take a significant amount of time.

If I were running things, I'd swallow hard, fire Manuel, keep Biff on a one year interim deal, hire a new AD, and let the new AD hire a coach in the next cycle. Short-term, that would stink for them. Long-term, I think it's the best long-term option.

if they cant get DeBoer or Freeman with promises of wide spread changes there, they might need to do just that
