Ben Johnson got too cute again.

On 2nd down they snapped the ball with 20 seconds left. Enough time for 3 shots at the endzone. Instead, they got 1 cute play and 1 rushed play that fell apart. We'll never know if that lost 3rd play might have been the difference.

I'll take Ben Johnson for as long as he wants to stay in Chicago, but that was frustrating. It if works, awesome. If it doesn't, you cost yourself a lot of time and at least one more snap.
so did two bad dropped passes on the final series.....

It's not entirely locked in but yeah pretty much. If Bears win or Eagles lose, then we get Packers/Bears III at Soldier Field.
The likelihood of the Eagles losing at home to the Commanders is pretty low so the Bears need to win. It will be interesting to see if the Lions show up or if they have their bags packed already.

Could be wrong but I'm thinking Detroit has packed it in. Came into the year with super bowl expectations & not even making the playoffs. Not the kind of team that shows up for a meaningless final game for them. May be wrong but I'd suspect a good start by the Bears will send the Lions mentally to the golf course.

I don't know, with a lot of former coaches on the opposite sideline, this could serve as motivation.

They have a lot of incentive organizationally to rest a bunch of guys and lose - it locks them into a 4th place schedule next year and also avoids any injury guarantees.

I hate that it’s what week 17-18 now becomes for half the league but is what it is.

We’ll see if Tuesday Goff magically has a sore knee…

Also a good reason to not expand the schedule further. More games leads to more potential separation in the standings which just leads to more meaningless games at the end of the

like it or not , they will be going to 18. they will eliminate a pre season game and start the season a week earlier .

the money is too big to ignore . and to counter your point , some of the BEST games of the year have been played in the past two weeks

just saying

No doubt that is where it is headed. If the league cared about product quality over the almighty $, they wouldn't play games on Thursdays except for Thanksgiving. The Thursday games as a general rule are awful cause the teams are on such a short turnaround from a Sunday to Thursday with minimal chance for rest/recovery & practice for the next team.

It does kind of seem to be one of those "too big to fail" propositions these days. No matter how much they sanitize the rules, screw up the scheduling, and have horrible officiating, the product still delivers the goods at the end of the day.

The last 2 Bears games have been the best drama one could find on tv.

I think they should have the Thursday games between two teams coming off byes the previous Sunday. You may not get quite as many games but if they actually cared about player safety they could do that.

According to reports, the Eagles will sit Hurts and some other starters against Washington. Although the Commanders are still probably bad enough to lose.

Similar to last year, the Bears defense is near the bottom of the league in yards allowed per play. They are 29th at 6.0. Only teams worse are Washington at 6.1, Dallas at 6.2, and Cincinnati at 6.3. Interestingly, they have a huge spread home vs. away, 5.2 vs. 6.7. No other team has a spread remotely close to that.

ESPN has an article that discussed the concerning weakness for every playoff team and they had the Bears concern as defending slot receivers. And the issue wasn't when C.J. Gardner Johnson was defending. It's more when people like Nick McCloud, Brisker, or Tremaine Edmunds are covering. Though of the potential opponents we could face, the Bucs are the only team that ranks high in how often they throw to slot receivers.

To me, more concerning is the lack of a pass rush. They don’t get many sacks or pressures. I think most of the resources in the off season have to be directed to upgrade the D. I’m not sure what you do on the line since most of the major players are signed to multiple years at big $$. Upgrading the linebackers and secondary will involve getting rid of some players we’ve become used to (Edmunds, Brisker, Gordon, Stevenson?).
