Any news on draft/portal/stay for X?
I think as of today … It’s in that order for him …
Any news on draft/portal/stay for X?
I get that we don't have elite money and we have many needs. But, given we don't have the resources to compete with other teams for our own kicker, I'm not as optimistic about outbidding others for a QB who will command much more this cycle than a kicker. On the Olano situation … Many pointed out that I was liking posts related to him transferring …
I wasn’t going to comment on the situation until after the bowl game and after Olano’s announcement … It was not a very well kept secret, but out of respect for who told me and them telling me not to comment on it, I haven’t …
The money that he is being offered from multiple CFP Teams is just too much to pass up on … We simply aren’t in a position to spend that much on a kicker … David understood … There’s no hard feelings …
Think for Bret it’s just frustrating that this is what the world has come to nowadays … In state kid who truly wants to be here but also has to weigh if he doesn’t make it to the NFL or an injury or some other crazy event … Then this is his last opportunity to truly cash in … And if someone is willing to triple or quadruple what you made this year, you have to consider it …
We have the resources to keep Olson- we’re talking about a few hundred thousand. The point being made is that BB doesn’t want to match that amount for a kicker - so it’s no hard feeling on either side.I get that we don't have elite money and we have many needs. But, given we don't have the resources to compete with other teams for our own kicker, I'm not as optimistic about outbidding others for a QB who will command much more this cycle than a kicker.
And if we can't, it sure would be nice to have a good FG kicker.
I wish Olano luck. The portal giveth and the portal taketh away.
I was gonna ask what happened to him? got in the doghouse ?
In a CBA, it would be legal to say no player can have ANY income outside of payment within CBA. I don’t think it would be that restrictive but it could be a $25M salary cap from schools and all players must report endorsement money and it can’t exceed their money from the school (or 50%). Failure to follow compensation rule is expulsion from CBA. School violates compensation rule is penalized.
It wouldn’t be wild Wild West when cheating existed because the CBA could have real authority. NCAA had regulatory issues.
really? I have no huge overall issues with our special teamsI am about done with the Robby Discher experiment.
Can any of the insiders or just people that have a better understanding of the roster help me understand what is going on at TE? Cole is clearly one of our best 1-2 TEs and while we landed the Vala, TE recruit that everyone seems to agree is underranked and has a ton of potential, we ultimately struck out on the 2 4 star TE in state prospects. Is our TE coach bad? Is this a scheme thing with how Lunney uses TEs in the offense? Or is there some other sort of explanation re: why can't we get/retain good TEs? Or am I simply overreacting and we are at where we should be at for a program of our caliber? This stings too. 19 catches this year. Had a slow start but was finding a role after a nasty knee injury. Feeds the bigger concern about how this offense does not utilize TEs and it's going to be hard to convince good prep TEs to come when they look at the year-over-year production.
Well, lets get the bad news out of the way. I guess we will be looking at a TE as well.
Feels like Discher and DC/Secondary coach are gone and thus we see TE/DBs mass exodus to the portal? Just my read based on who is all leaving at the moment.I am about done with the Robby Discher experiment.
any projected timeline on when any staffing announcements would be made?My opinion on this one is strictly my opinion …
But if it was me … A change would be made …
Going to need a new Kicker … TE room is not great … And missed on Sutter and Anderson … Which hey maybe we would have anyways but for both of them to say the relationship wasn’t that great with Discher … That’s an unacceptable answer for me …
But like I said … Strictly my opinion that a change should be made …
I'm assuming there will be very minimal if any staff turnover.any projected timeline on when any staffing announcements would be made?
No, probably no identical situations. One similar situation is the NBA (any salary cap situation). The player is prohibited from receiving money from affiliated people/entities to circumvent the salary cap. It is rumored the Clippers did this with Kawhi Leonard by trying to pay Leonard through Ballmer’s other companies. This is not allowed. (I’m not sure if they actually did this or just tried to do it).Is there any sport CBA that restricts all income outside of team compensation? I see a lot of problems with trying to do this.
Just do what the professional sport leagues do: You can do any outside promotional opportunities but you can't use team/league marks (unless you are willing to let the team/league take a cut of the promotion).
Believe Rusk and Altmeyer are good buds.
