At least 3 of the 6 teams with byes were underdogs and 2 of the 6 were big underdogs.

My two cents: The teams that earned a bye in the current format are about to be 0-6. These are not bad football teams. Being off from game action for a month leads to rust, and that’s what we’re seeing. Probably needs to be addressed going forward or you’ll continue to see awful football from the top 4 seeds.

Assuming they hold on here, Oregon's next game would be in the Peach Bowl next Thursday. I wonder if they would just decide to stay east rather than fly back to Eugene just to fly to Atlanta a few days later.

If I got to choose, I'd go home games rounds 1 and 2, move the start a week earlier (so round 1 is 2 weeks after season end instead of 3), so semifinal games would be today and championship next week (or the following Monday if you want to keep it on a Monday night to prevent conflicts with NFL). Then it's over about the same time as other NCAA divisions, a top 4 seed means potentially 2 additional home games, and nobody gets too rusty (while still getting a week off for healing up).

Not sure I would want 2 rounds of home games. I doubt it would happen anyways because right now the Quarters and Semi's are Bowl games. I would be surprised if they would want to get rid of those Bowl's as part of the CFP.

They could try and do what FCS does (which I mistakenly posted how big the field was earlier). Since 2013, they've had it be 24 teams, 16 of which are seeded, with the top 8 getting byes (Covid year they only did 16 with just top 4 being seeded with no byes). The teams on bye only have a two week break between their final regular season game and their first playoff game. The only extended break they have during the playoff is between the national semifinals and the national championship. This season, the national semifinals were December 20 with the national championship game this coming Monday. So roughly 2 1/2 weeks between the two games.

actually hope IU breaks the streak.

expecting major changes this offseason. conference championship games cancelled. 16 team playoff, no byes, top 8 seeds host first round, higher seed hosts second round. the ability to host incentivizes the regular season games. cutting out conference championships moves everything up a week, prevents rust. not sure how rose/fiesta/orange/sugar/cotton/peach bowls get sorted out, some sort of revolving system could make sense

the easiest answer is 16 teams
first round same weekend as now - seeds 1-8 play at home

the only issue is TV schedule . do you have some games on at same time or do you spread it over more than days somehow ?

IU will break the trend and beat Bama, and that Oregon vs. Indiana rematch is gonna be must see tv.
