Mizzou is terrible
Tenn isn’t good either.
And Texas Tech was a homer job.

Illinois is the only team in KenPom top 11 that has 3 losses. Every other team is 0 or 1. So I don’t see this team as at the level Kenpom has them at
There are many statistical figures that KenPom uses to base its rankings on...

I love Keaton- I agree, he's our best player- and I'm grateful he's so good- but isn't that an indictment on the team Underwood built? That our team can't function properly without a freshman we thought might get spot minutes going into the season? That's a PROBLEM
I am with you. I didn't like the fact when people said Tomi was our best player. Tomi is good but he is not the best creator. Dre is good but unfortunately like most people figured, he couldn't shoot three. Boswell is undoubtedly good but not great. Without Keaton, we don’t really have a go-to player. I do think a great coach can make this team very good even without Keaton but Underwood is not there yet.

This wasn't the Illini's A game, but it was probably a B game with limited minutes by crucial players due to foul trouble, combined with what was probably Tomi's worst game as an Illini (he's had 4 bad games now this year, and 3 of them are conference games, so let's get the effort up in conference games, Tomi). Rebounding was good, defense was outstanding first half, and OK second half, offense was stagnant at times and better when pushing the ball. Even Petro contributed in his time on the floor tonight, which was nice with Keaton's foul trouble.

If this is a B game …

We aren’t going to win a lot Big Ten games …

I don't buy your argument, Indy. You seem to be forgetting that PSU's players are also very well paid, not just ours.

We were on the cusp of a blow out for the entire game right from the beginning when we quickly went up 10. Give PSU some credit for not giving up.

Tomi by himself makes nearly double what the highest paid dude on that PSU roster gets paid …

Cusp of a blowout ?? We beat the 2nd worst Big Ten team by 8 points …

Absolutely that will change … I was commenting on the coaches looking at film and deciding to change something …

I don’t expect anything to change schematically…
And that's the essence of the problem. The scheme + enough talent will lead to quality results across the course of the season, i.e., consistently winning conference games, top 3-5 conference finishes, great Ws, etc. But it also makes us vulnerable to the best of the best and the whims of up-and-down shooting. It's a solid scheme for being a winning regular season team; I don't think it's a scheme that can survive long in March unless we happen to get incredibly hot from beyond the arc. I'd rather not have that last bit be how we live and die come March.

Must be disillusioning for Penn State to experience that in one of our worst performances with our star player sitting out in foul trouble half the game, they were behind the whole way and never seriously threatened to take a lead or win a home game. Long season for them, lots of teaching moments and points of emphasis for the Illini.

Tenn is KenPom 16 and Texas Tech 20. Nebraska is only 22 but they are undefeated so far. I agree with you we are probably not a top 10 team but more like top 15.

It was a road game where they were up by 10 about 3 minutes in, had 3 starters in foul trouble, maintained the 10 point lead basically the whole game, and effectively coasted against a bad team in the 2nd half. The game was never really in doubt, though, and the team played like it. I'd like to have seen them put the game away early 2nd half, and I'd like to see Tomi play with more energy, but beyond that it was a lazy game that they won pretty easily with a somewhat deceptive final score.

Might be good for some of you to take a step back and see the big picture of CBBK. It is not uncommon for Top 20 KP teams to get tested by 100-150 KP teams, especially on the road.

Recent ones come to mind include:
- Seattle against Gonzaga
- Florida State against Duke
- Georgia Tech against Duke
- Oakland against Purdue
- Oakland against Sparty
- PENN STATE against Sparty

S**t happens. Put this one in the rearview and get better. It’s a win that no one will think about by March.
