Mizzou is terrible
Tenn isn’t good either.
And Texas Tech was a homer job.

Illinois is the only team in KenPom top 11 that has 3 losses. Every other team is 0 or 1. So I don’t see this team as at the level Kenpom has them at
That didn’t age well:

3 pages of post-game and not one comment about Mirk? I’ll do it. This guy has IT. He is able to create no matter what he is doing and he is scrapping for rebounds on nearly every possession. I only watched the last 30 minutes of game time , but he would be my MVP…
Agree. And last game offense was running through wagler/boswell/mirk. Should’ve been more mirk this game-did well.

Agree and thought similar with Tomi. Was so clear from first few possessions that PSU was just going to blitz double and make him give up the ball on offense. Should he have had more rebounds? Sure. But what I watched wasn’t a lazy kid, he was being keyed on by the opponent and we adjusted and played a different kind of game with KB & Stoj hunting ISOs and Mirkovic as the primary hub/screener, and having Z play more minutes (also due to fouls though).

Each game is its own story with new heroes, scapegoats and narratives to be had. Maybe Boswell will score 2 first half points on 1-5 shooting and 3 turnovers and we can interchange the Tomi discourse with KB commentary vs Rutgers.

I’m just exhausted of the screaming “adjustments” over and over crowd. Like there is plenty of stuff right there. Literally just watch.

Instead you got this bizarre narrative to keep repeating - and for what purpose exactly?

This isn’t just calling you out … It’s calling out this whole attitude in general …

These dudes are making 7 figures plus … These aren’t kids … These are professionals who are paid to do a job …

And it’s not just an organization paying these guys … It’s your friend, your neighbor, your co worker … People who work hard and decide to take that hard earned money and give it to the program to field a better team …

If the guys receiving that money aren’t playing to the standard … Deserves to be called out …

And I don’t understand why everyone is so against people doing it … Back when it was the back door payments, sure we can play pretend that these guys aren’t getting anything and are still kids … Not the case anymore …
And honestly, Tomi should’ve earned his starting spot this year instead of having it given to him.

That take by Underwood in the postgame on Tomi is just utter nonsense- his response to Tomi's terrible game is they doubled him? Apparently doubling means a 7'1 guy can't get rebounds still- can't play good defense- can't not foul 4 times... It's so insincere to call out David for far less than this.. and then coddle Tomi. This also isn't a 1 game blip, Tomi's had one good game for nearly the first half of the season.

For whatever reason, people just can’t come to terms that every game won’t be your A game. It’s legitimately impossible. Fouls happen, shots don’t fall, etc.

When that happens you need to win ugly (which is a skill). Like you said they never threatened, and closest they got was 8. If that’s the genuinely worst thing you have to be crushed about — probably means you’re doing all right.
Putting aside some of the naysayer comments… I think where this team is improved from a year ago is our B and C games are better. LaTulip mentioned this numerous times before the season.

Last season - our average margin of win was like 14pts, but margin of loss was 14pts as well (not certain on those numbers, but was something similar).

As a result, all things considered, we’re better suited to win those ugly games when there’s adversity, foul trouble, etc.

We thought Purdue would be our top opponent to compete for the Chicago regional but Michigan is currently playing like a juggernaut. They are beating much better teams by 30. This team should beat this years PSU team by 15-20 even if Wagler misses the entire game. Maybe my expectations are too high but this wasn’t just a game of missing shots. I think we’ve all seen what the ceiling can be with this team and so there’s frustration when we lack a killer instinct. I will always take a win but I can’t always be satisfied with how we win just because it’s a win.
I’m not ready to concede this. It’s true they’ve been blowing out teams by healthy numbers, which is what good teams do, but I think their schedule is much softer than it appears.

Oakland 7-8
Wake Forest 9-5
TCU 10-3
Middle Tennessee 8-5
San Diego State 8-4
Auburn 9-4
Gonzaga 15-1
Rutgers 7-7
Villanova 11-2
Maryland 7-7
LaSalle 4-10
McNeese State 11-3
USC 12-2

Clearly their best win is against Gonzaga and beating them by 40 is impressive. But the rest of their schedule is chock full of name teams that have underperformed, or teams with a nice record who’ve played an otherwise weak schedule. And even Gonzaga struggled in its last two game, barely beating San Diego and Seattle.

But credit where credit is due, they’ve mostly taken care of their opponents in impressive fashion. And their upcoming schedule features a bunch of conference foes they should beat. But life in the B1G isn’t always so predictable, so we’ll see.

Do you think it’s possible that the coach of the basketball team understands the different personality types of the players he’s coaching and what might motivate one player, could have a negative impact on another?

I think it’s safe to say we won’t find many motivational speakers on the Loyalty Board. At least not effective ones, anyway. 😂

Will Wade is the man for tearing into his entire team after 36 point win

Will Wade is also the man for defending Darrion Williams poor play

Brad is lame and ineffective no matter what he says about any player in any situation

It’s science

Officiating in league is part of why big hasn’t won a title in so long. Play a herky jerky game all conference due to refs and get a different style in tourney.
I do tend to agree.
I say tend to agree only because I'm not knowledgeable enough to strongly agree. But it is beyond ridiculous that a league that pretty much always has a 1 seed or even two never wins the prize. There has to be something going on and the style of officiating changing is a good point

We definitely had more top end games in the non conference. But what’s why it’s frustrating to miss free throws and lose to Alabama and lose at home to Nebraska because it’s missed opportunities. Our bottom SOS is mainly the difference. I also still don’t want to believe in Michigan as unbeatable because I didn’t think they’d be this good all offseason. And it’s not conceding but we’re behind the 8 ball already. And it’s not just Michigan but Purdue, MSU, and Nebraska are all competition for seeding at this point. You saw injuries and sickness run through our roster last year. And not every schedule is the same with 18 teams now. Purdue was my betting favorite because they get the top B1G teams at home mostly. Lots of games left to play obviously so we will see who slips up

Username does NOT check out. 😉

You’re right though… we’re behind the 8 ball in the B1G race by losing at home to Nebraska. Need to make up for that with a big road win. Long way to go though. Injuries and illness can plague any team, any time.

We have a very favorable schedule coming up. Winning at Iowa would be huge. We can’t lose at Northwestern if we wanna win the B1G. I do drink the koolaid though 😉 March comes around and I always talk myself into the team making a run. Thanks for having a friendly debate on here on the state of our team. I truly believe this team can do great things, I just hope they believe it too and have the desire to do so.

I’d like to see Tomi and Mirk switch roles on offense. More Tomi in pick and pop and distributing to slashers (Andrej) and the top of the key. More Mirk back to the basket.
No. Please no. The last game where they had him try it a few times, not only couldn't he couldn't make any progress 1:1 with a mediocre defender, he almost lost the ball. His dribble is loose. The most common result is the ball gets poked away.

I'd like to see a new rule for Andrej. If the first two moves on a drive fail, he must pass it back out. Andrej's percentage is horrible by the time he gets to his 3rd/4th tries. They are either turnovers or terrible shots. His pressing the issue cost several possessions today.

I can't help thinking this is an instance where having brothers on the team bites you. There's sure to be some drama elevating one over the other when that's not what they signed up for.
