back in my day we called this tampering. we knew that he was entering the portal and where he was going before the bowl game.
Head coaches now get boosters to do the dirty work for them and thus can claim they aren't tampering. They may not be directly tampering, but they are almost certainly conspiring to tamper. Case in pint, Tennessee boosters wouldn't throw $2mil at Altmyer if Heupel hadn't given them the green light.

We’re going to need a center - not sure TJ is ready for the full time starting role. This guy would bring experience and solid play- he was Purdue’s second rated lineman by PFF (granted not saying much) but held up pretty well against Michigan, ND and some of the top DL they played. Would be a solid addition in my mind to eliminate a question mark at least.

The other JC transfers should fill in the other gaps on the OL nicely

I still have a feeling Renfro will be brought in

And then Heupel got to say truthfully that nobody in the athletic department had any contact with Luke because it was all backdoor dealings.

Something I find fascinating about Olano at Illinois: he didn't attempt a single field goal from less than 20 yards in his two years here. 43 FG attempts. I want to believe that means Barry Lunney has been very good about getting into the end zone from the red zone.

He's a great kicker. I hate to see him go. You take good kickers for granted until you get one which doesn't allow you that luxury.

Good for the players. Coaches and their agents have been able to find more lucrative landing spots while still coaching at School A forever. Yes, most of their contracts have buyout clauses now, but those also are usually paid by the new landing spot.
Why should a player have to gamble by going into the portal without a landing spot? The toothpaste has been out of the tube for a while now.

Not to mention the string of excellent kicking we’ve had going back for quite some time. It really hasn’t been a concern since pre Bret and even pre Lovie.

End zone is 10 yards
Typical hold is 7 yards back from LOS

20 Yard kick would be a field goal from the 3 yard line.
Everyone (except Western Illinois to avoid being shut out) goes for it within the 3 nowadays. Statistics say it's a better move and even if you don't get it. Opposing team is pinned deep.

Who is kicking a field goal that is less than 20 yards on modern football?

With about 17 yards automatically built in to each kick, it's somewhat difficult, in general, to kick sub-20 yd FGs

perfect comparison to modern day NIL portal tampering is how everyone on the interstate outside of chicago goes at least 75 even though the speed limit is 55. if everyone does it, it can’t be policed
75?

John Wooden says "hello!"

i.e. same as it ever was. the name of the game is plausible deniability

The Wild Wild West of College football. What will happen next. I am a season ticket holder for the last several years. Before I would pick and choose a game or two to go to. You really can't buy a jersey of a favorite player. Spend 130 with his name on it and the next season he gone. I am debating getting my tickets again. Pretty soon as a junior to declare for the draft when you will make as much in college as draft pick. Oh well hope we pick up a few players from the portal. I can see some of the 26 class getting a lot of playing time.
