How much is a win worth? Olano’s leg was the difference in at least 2 of our 9 wins this year. Were those worth $200 each?

I know it’s not that simple, but blockers win and lose games for teams all the time. If you got a good, consistent one, hard to see him go elsewhere.
i think you meant kickers (not blockers) but i laughed because if we had better blockers then maybe we're not in a situation to rely on last second kicks to win

How much longer are we going to debate the merit and value of kickers? Will the madness end?

Unless 60 minutes of a game rests on the foot of that player. Ask ISU what they think of those few plays a game.

Heck, look at the Bears. They're consistently playing teams whose kicker can hit from 56+. If the kick is any more that 50 yards, Santos is a complete question mark and anything over 55 is out of the question. It's an enormous disadvantage and has cost them games.

I take it nothing really went our way today with the visits? I'm surprised we didn't get a commit today. Night is not over yet, but was hoping something big would pop for us.

Insert dumb "was he playing last night?" question here.

You need to keep up. We're fielding a team of Andre Dawson's who will do anything to play in Memorial Stadium...

I mean Gies Memorial Stadium.

Like a backup OG who had a 55 PFF grade? Like come on man. That’s a crazy take. Kickers matter. Ask Nick Saban

maybe he’s back in Copenhagen training for The Worlds Strongest Man competition with all the other guys named Magnus
But maybe he is being a pro in Europe and will came to the States later

I think this is one of those things where both sides can be correct. There's no question that since NIL and portal kombat, Illinois has been given the opportunities and advantages to be a upper half B10 team. It's been great for us and has been instrumental in turning our program around.

But I also agree that the Portal and NIL has made college sports worse overall. The constant transfers, the constant rerecruitment, the venturing into a professional minor league for the most part, and the continuous churn and burn what have you done for me lately approach leading to a revolving door is overall just not as enjoyable in my opinion. And I think a lot of it has to do with you not seeing kids grow and mature and develop. Kids you look forward seeing turn from awkward freshmen into senior leaders. Now you might get 1 or 2 ride or die guys like Luke or Matt or Ayo and a bunch of 1yr mercenaries, when back then most of your team was ride or die.

So I agree the portal has been great for Illinois, but I also agree that the overall NCAA product has gotten less enjoyable and worse due to NIL and turning students into professional mercenaries
This is a very well reasoned, balanced take, and for that it is my personal responsibility, as a card holding member of Loyalty, to tell you you are simply wrong.
