Our defensive line is !!!!ing horrible lol

I’m sorry but we can try to say everything will be fine. But replacing an entire defense with lower level dudes is absolutely a risk and not good. Spin zone will come im sure. But the depth chart is UGLY

Also not to mention. We really trust Aaron Henry to build a new defense full of new players and make it work?

Same dude who couldn’t even get play calls in on time this year

There will be teams coming for his service. He was only getting better and bigger. Hope he takes himself out of the portal. I think he would have been starting nose tackle. What choices do the coaches have when someone says they are in the portal. 1. Talk him out of it. 2 Pay more $$. 3 Let him go.

Every player is getting why the getting is getting good. Illinois has won 19 games and 2 bowl games. These transfers cache will never be this high again. I'm pretty sure if Bielema wanted them to stay then he would have made it happen.

I’m sorry but this crazy. Mccullom was really good last year.
Our version of good last year and a dominant defense version of good are two totally opposite visions....purely MO.

What did McCullom bring that can't be replaced? To be clear, I'm not saying that the loss should be ignored, but the unit, in its entirety, was awful. After, I'm assuming, hours upon hours of viewing tape by Bret and Co, I'm really confident that this staff identified issues and will not leave themselves short with a unit this vital.

That front four made a really bad defensive backfield look even worse with their inability to pressure the QB without blitzing.

Not sure if you're a Bears fan, but their last three weeks of defense has looked like what we saw all year from our boys. We can't get to the QB, so we play zone, which drove people nuts. We couldn't stop teams on 3rd down, so we'd go man and our corners would consistently get beat underneath.

It all starts with that line and I have absolutely no problem with a hockey line change.

Wait you’re not losing sleep over a guy with those numbers but will put a boom gif for a dude that had 30 catches for 300 yards in 5 years. Or a 25 year old OLB with 2.5 career sacks? Come on man.

Why are you trusting that Aaron Henry of all people is gonna be able to put something to together with a bunch of moving pieces when he couldn’t even get play calls in last year

Guys - our defense wasn’t that good this year … Cost us games … I’m not losing sleep over someone leaving that had 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks …

It’s time to freaking upgrade …
I'm wondering, is it maybe a feasible strategy w/r/t the DLine to pool the money and go after a couple big difference makers, and go cheaper on filling out the depth hoping that maybe and underclassman or two steps up? I imagine with pretty much the entire line coming off the books, building it back up is a big task, but also maybe some potential to re-think how to do it?
