Perhaps an exaggeration. And I’d be the first one to tell you i actually hate blindly trusting AI but chatGPT estimated about 1/4 to 1/3 of power conference players enter the transfer portal every year. I think you could find an actual stat online that would back this up if you truly cared.

By my rough count we had 26 enter the portal to date. I think we hovered right around 100 scholarship players. So that would mean we sit somewhere around the average amount of transfers. So ya maybe saying > 90% of teams are in the exact same boat as us was overzealous but compounding everything else together I don’t think we should be freaking out. At all. This is college athletics now.

Not apples to apples but if anyone follows basketball and sees how much turnover we have year to year (ironically this is probably our most returned roster in recent memory) and sees that we maintain about the same level of success, that alone should provide at least some mental comfort that we aren’t going to return to complete irrelevancy because we’re finally experiencing turnover at a normal rate in football. That’s essentially my entire point.

It is much easier to get into IU than UIUC. In fact many people pick IU because they could not get into Illinois (Kelly vs Grainger). It has been argued that UIUC needs to expand enrollment because there is just 1 flagship state school in Illinois. Our Alumni Association would grow with higher enrollment numbers.

This is an extreme overstatement and not fair to Elzy, but I think he's an idiot for going there. Just go to Cincinnati or Houston or [insert almost every Big XII or ACC program here) and get a real chance to contribute while still getting paid.

Confused as to your response. The talent level over the past 2 recruiting classes (Freshman and transfers is demonstably better than those recruited in BBs first 3 years. Hence the defensive transfers (out) make alot of sense. The players coming in are (and those staying) are better football players.

8 and counting so far in 2026, with at least a few more who would seem to be P4 locks.

The underlying process has changed so much in this period that it's hard to draw super strong conclusions, that said, for a losing team undergoing a coaching change, the lack of churn in Bielema's early years was EXTREMELY unusual. Bret got every last drop out of the players he inherited, right down to having four players who committed to Lovie out there playing big roles in the bowl win in year 5 (Tyler Strain, Josh Gesky, Dylan Rosiek, Josh Kreutz).

Both have huge online programs, IU has their satellite campuses spread all over the state and their academic standards outside of Kelley are declining. Purdue is similar but demand to get in is going crazy because they’ve frozen tuition for 14 years. Kids from the east coast are there because OOS tuition is cheaper than their IS tuition. It’s booming!
