Carson Boyd

have high hopes for him. a better passing version of Randle-El, I think. to be fair, I don't see him being in Randle-El's league as a runner. hardly an indictment though. very, very few are

needless to say, really important year for him, despite mainly mop-up duty (knock on wood)

Maybe and I'm only speculating here, if you have a player that you don't necessarily want to keep, but you might keep him at a discount for depth, you offer him a lot less money.

We were spoiled by guys like Luke, Johnny and Gabe that took less to stay. But for a guy like Coenen I get it. He’s being offered starting dt money and is going to make way more than we can ever pay for a back up. You can sell him the development and a starting role for 27. It’s hard to pass up that kind of money for a kid that most likely will never play in the nfl

I think that expresses it well.

EDIT: I see I'm not the first one to post that, so to kind of say it another way, skepticism of your own roster is a very expensive problem to have in the current environment, and perhaps is a luxury outside our price range.

You could say we *kinda* did something like this before when we added JC Davis and Melvin Priestly in favor of homegrown options who have since transferred (which I complained and fretted about, naturally), but there's a volume involved here that feels like it ups that degree of difficulty even a bit higher.

Idk seems like a kid that's still filling into that frame and developing. I could see him getting a chance at the league
