I thought Brad's adjustments for the guards against the zone were good... A little more Keaton off-ball. Let boswell try and probe, and Petro did well.

I DO NOT like Mirk or Z being the guys at the top of the key though - the back to back no look touch pass turnovers when we were up 11 was actually bs and ridiculous. That happened in another game against zone (someone help me out if you remember - maybe Colgate?) If we have the luxury of Keaton and Boswell, I want a bigger guard in that spot. And if it must be a big, I prefer Tomi honestly. I don't get the insistence on that one.

Tomi is head and shoulders the best offensive big against zone. He will plant himself at the FT line and the ball will move. The other bigs seem to still want to roam the perimeter vs zone.

With the bigs and Keaton playing so well today, it really masked how poor Andrej/Ben were. If they can't stick it from outside, they really dont provide anything out there. I loved the twin towers lineup today against Minnesota. Won't get away with it against quicker teams but Z changes so many shots/drives on D with his presence and Tomi is rock solid on O vs zone
I will add Mirk has taken this role as well, makes sense for he and Tomi to be the engines against the zone with their passing ability.

11 AM win...I take it every single time.

We are 15 and 3...thats awesome.

- Need to be better against the zone. We just hurled 3's and thats the point of a zone, but we have to be able to make better, quicker adjustments. 3's fell in the 2nd half which is why we won.

- Andrej looks frustrated and at times disengaged. I think there got to be a conversation on how to utilize him better. That kid can score and is long and athletic. Yes we want him rebounding and playing defense, but I think to get the most out of him on the defensive end, we got to get him involved a bit more, just so he feels more in the flow of the game.

- Z and Tomi might just need to be 50/50 on minutes...Z is playing at a very high level right now.

- Keaton is prolly going in the lottery, I get that...but you can see his lack of strength being an issue...I just want him another year to put on 10-15 lbs of muscle and then go top 5 in the next draft...can we talk him into that?

- Petro...I see you...now let him try again next game...keep him engaged.

7 in a row? I'm having fun.
I know I’ll get crucified for this. This game and at NW, I sense AS has got a touch of hero ball. I hope that gets nipped in the Bud. AS is so much better when the ball is moving

i didn't mind missing the first but being baited into a quick shot without his feet set after the rebound was a dumb mistake.

On AS, the scout is clearly out on him. Teams are packing the paint when he drives. Presumably they are coaching him to pass out rather than try and score over 3 guys?
i think it's also the lack of fouls called. if you go in like a freight train like tsj you get the call every time. he's a finesse player and everyone is just bodying him in the air.

I’d appreciate it if you could start watching a little earlier. My first half frustration level got to 8.5 a couple times.

it's just the ebb and flow of a season. it happens to every team and it's not that big of a deal

Yes, UCONN struggled with Georgetown, in an AWAY game. Not going to dwell on this because like many posters have pointed out any B10 win is great and we are on a roll. Hopefully we can keep it going.

But, if you listen to BU, he is not saying anything different than what many posters are pointing out. We need to be better at home and play with more defensive effort.

Maybe it's a good thing we are a more locked in team away from home. There are no tournament games held at State Farm. But it sure makes winning tougher, upcoming league games in Champaign more of a challenge.

Tomi with another solid game. I think the key to having a special 1 seed caliber season is either him or Stojakovich stepping up to Bos and Wagler's level.

I don't mean necessarily being a star every night. But Bos and Wagler are playing incredibly consistent right now. Always good, and sometimes great. We've had too many no shows from Stoj and Tomi.

Minnesota was in a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Play man and we'll match up hunt and kill you with our size and skill.

Play zone and we'll shoot over it and you'll be out of position to get rebounds.

Really speaks to the versatility of this team.

Energy wasn't great on the other end. Several poor close outs that they made us pay for.

But ultimately, we still held them to their season averages. And 99% of teams are going to lose against us if they just bring their average game.

Also, proud dad moment - this was my 9 month old's first Illini game. Made it to the 8 minute mark before the noise got to him and we had to leave (kudos to the Krushless crowd who actually got decently loud at times). Glad we got the win. If we had lost in his first game, I'd probably have to never bring him again. So, he dodged a bullet there.

Excuses for a 10 point win? puzzling, seems like we are just one Groce away from losing this one.

Entertaining game and a great win -- nice to have a team that doesn't get rattled in close games. I thought maybe BU brought Petrovic in because he has more ability against zones. Minny played great and hit their shots. Tyson was a pest and used his athleticism well against our size. Boswell wasn't as sharp today as against NW but it didn't matter. I think Ben missed all three wide open shots today and they weren't close? His best play was a drive and dish along the baseline. Tomi and Z were great today. Wagler of course. I think Mirkovic must be a fan of Neymar the way he goes down sometimes to bait the officials. Even he was hitting 3s.

Stopping games to review hook and holds and 2 second clock mistakes 🙄 I'm still not clear on what constitutes a foul when a player is driving to the basket. Maybe they're fifty fifty calls which is why they feel so arbitrary.

Will have to check but did we even see Ben in the 2nd half?

(He and Andrej were poor today)

I thought Petro gave a huge boost for the limited time he was out there
I really, truly do appreciate the defense, leadership and intangibles Ben brings to the team. I liked his drive and dish to Z in the first half. But man, I wish he could start making open 3's at a reliable clip.

what intangibles? he's strong, works hard and rebounds average, doesn't turn the ball over, a little slow for his size on defense, cannot shoot at all any more for some reason. When he's missing shots he's a negative, making shots he's a positive and not taking shots he's neutral.

Apparently Jake Davis is the leader on the team according to BU? Hard to believe it's not Boswell or Tomi.

Extreme talent disparity.
Certainly. But lots of teams are extremely talented — Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, etc. Usually those teams seem to lose when they don’t come out mentally ready (i.e. Michigan to Wisconsin, Iowa State to Cincinnati today).

Our team on the other hand, has been said to have been mentally unprepared for almost every game in the past month. But somehow we can stroll into being the #1 team in the country over that timeframe:
