As a neutral:

-In a game of this weather, you have to take the points. Ben Johnson should’ve kicked at least one of the field goals in the first half.

-DJ Moore quit on that route and then quit again not trying to prevent the INT

-Caleb is electric

-I was rooting hard for the Bears on behalf of my Illini fans and extended family, bummed for all you guys and gals!
And Rome dropped a touchdown on the first possession or did you not see that

Good point, and that's certainly the logic behind the rules.

What I'd then question is why did CHI not elect to receive after they won the toss. IMO, the advantage I just laid out far outweighs the "knowing what you need on 4th down" logic. At minimum in hindsight that's how it played out.
All we needed was a FG. Shouldn't have thrown a pass that dangerous.

I thought Ben Johnson lost the game for the Bears tonight.

When it’s 3rd or 4th & short, you gotta QB sneak. Keep it simple. He got stuffed way too many times handing ball off 4 yards behind the LOS when you only need a yard. I still don’t know why coaches are so hesitant to QB sneak. I watched Tom Brady do it a million times. It’s not exciting football but it’s winning football.

Ultimately I don’t think it matters. Seattle would have blown out either team that won tonight

Already mentioned it before but I'll repeat it here....

Because with current OT rules, it makes more sense to kick so that way you know what your team needs to do to win after the opposing team's first possession.

I was saying the same thing. If you don’t want to risk injuring your QB, bring in a TE (No. 81?) and have him take the snap directly for the sneak. Absolutely doesn’t make sense to go back 4-5 yds when all you need is 1 yd or less.

Aside from that, Ben left a lot of points on the field for no reason. He absolutely had to kick the FG on that first possession. He generally goes for 4th down way too much. At one point they showed the states from last 2 games, jt was 2/6 vs. GB (one including that unbelievable completion to Rome), and 0/4 vs. Rams. That’s 30% … too low to keep doing it

Exactly the same reason in college football OT the winner of the toss chooses to play defense first.

Ben’s decision making on when to kick field goals vs go for it has to improve. Otherwise he did a great job this year. Future looks pretty bright.
I agree. He did a phenomenal job this year, but in a one and done, you need to be extremely thoughtful of when to go for it and when to put 3 in your back pocket. Unfortunately, a couple of those decisions came back to haunt him in the end. He'll learn from it. Honestly, this going for it on 4th down, across the league, is a trend. It's great when it works and detrimental when it doesn't. Have to be more selective, especially in the first quarter.

The difference of course in college is that both teams are guaranteed equal possessions. Not sure it’s worth knowing the outcome of the first possession if you aren’t also guaranteed a second once the other team begins their second.

I wouldn't have been surprised had we gone for 2 after the TD at the end of the game.
I was surprised Ben didn’t with how aggressive he is. I do think taking the kick made the most sense in that situation based on our ineptitude at short yardage all day and having the home crowd. Given the team had a shot to get a game winning fg and just came up a first down short tells me it was the right call.

The creative play calling would have run the ball up the middle for no gain...so same result.

Congrats on a great season. Tough loss - having the win stolen at the end.
Bears future is bright. BJ and CW are the real deal. Dennis Allen is a f*g menace.

CHI-GB rivalry will be hot and fun in the coming years. LaFleur and Gutenkunst just got extended.
First time in forever that both teams are relevant.
Buckle up.

With a little more seasoning and maturity Caleb has the looks of a Super Bowl qb imo. He will win at least one before he is done.

fun season to watch Caleb step into his role and for fans to get to understand Johnson’s philosophy.

we are a full year ahead on the rebuild . maybe an elite edge rusher & strong linebacker away from a really really good D .

The one thing that I question is if the Bears should have elected to take the wind. They chose to kick, allowing the Rams to have the ball and the wind.

I have to think if Chicago elects to have the wind at their backs, the Rams still choose to receive.

I see a lot of criticism of Ben Johnson's decisions on going for the FG. However, look at the overall results. No one would have put the Bears as one of the final 8 when the season started. The last 3 games they lost they were one play away from winning. Is it possible that this teams belief that they are going to win is a result of his attitude? Never reluctant to take a chance. Never give up. Never timid. Bold and brash. Just keep forging ahead. I find it hard to be critical. He is totally consistent in pushing the Bears to their limit. As Caleb matures it will be a recipe for unbelievable success. More unbelievable than this season.
