I think you're taking my point a little to literally. Keaton also has a high percentage of points from the free throw line. Brad was praising him for drawing 10 fouls in the Washington game. If someone was downplaying Keaton by saying "Keaton would only be averaging 11 points a game if he didn't shoot so many free throws", you'd say that's a nonsensical arguement.

Like Keaton?
Keaton free throws 10-12 Neb, 6-9 Wash, 11-13 PU, 4-6 MD

Fears free throws 12-14 scUM 31 pts, 16-17 RU 29 points, 4-4 MD 17 points, 2-2 Oregon 15 points

For the last 2 games Fears had 28 points from the free throw line out of his 60 which is around 50 percent. Not the same for Keaton. Fears is shooting 28% from 3 for the season.

Just like overcoming the anti-Freshman bias of Big Ten Player of the Year, he's a freshman, and he's not from Duke, so he's got a massive hill to climb to compete for these awards.

This could have been Podz if only Brad had given him the keys.

Family Guy GIF

What kind of insurance is going to cover a multi multi million dollar NBA CAREER covering 15 years?

They clearly have to be thinking of Wagler as a SG, right?
This is almost certainly what it is. Which is dumb because he is clearly playing the PG role on this team, and not just because Kylan is out. I think a lot of people who only started paying attention when he dropped 46 on Purdue aren't aware Brad switched their roles before the injury.

To add to how ridiculous he's been this year, currently he is shooting 43.8% from 3 with over 100 attempts. That would rank him as the most accurate single season volume (>100 attempts) shooter from 3 who has put on an Illini uniform in the past 20 years. He's basically shooting it at 2005 Dee Brown level (43.4%)!

Since 2000 Single Season 3pt% Leaders (>100 attempts):
1. 2006 Jamar Smith 48.2%
2. 2003 Sean Harrington 44.4%
3. 2026 Keaton Wagler 43.8%
4. 2015 Rayvonte Rice 43.6%
5. 2005 Dee Brown 43.4%

Just wild.

Also, the 3 pt line moved back from 19' 9" to 20' 9" in 2008, and then to the international distance of 21' 1 3/4" in the 19-20 season. That makes it even more insane.
