Pardon if I am being slow, I'm trying to understand which is the cart and which is the horse here. Did our DL recruiting fall short because our DL coach knew he was leaving, or did our DL coach leave because he struck out in recruiting?

I get there are larger nuances like Bret changing the overall defense, and the chance to coach in the NFL. But I'd hate to think we are where we are because Jamo had a taste for Buffalo wings and stopped trying.
Neither....he just left to go to the NFL

Thanks for the quick reply 0440.

Just seems like we got left in the lurch a bit. Bret bends over backwards to help Henry (and many others before) to a soft landing and then Jamo leaves us with what appears to be a pretty sparse DL group. But I suppose it's different for a staff member looking for opportunities / advancement than for the head coach.

I think we have 10 or 11 D linemen on the roster(with room to add more). 2 interior DL is my guess for the new scheme(down from 3). Jamo didn't just leave out of the blue...they all communicate, Bret isn't thrown off or shocked by this. One thing to remember is when the media announces a coaching move it has already happened behind the scenes well in advance.

People can’t comprehend that we will no longer be running a 3 man front.

We’re switching the type DL and number of DL on the field in the new scheme. I think this just Jim wanting Jameson as his DL coach.
Are we trying more of the Indiana-style scheme with the D-line—smaller, quicker, quick-twitch type players? I feel like people always talked about how small Indiana’s D-line was, but they dominated. It seems like the era of the big, plug-the-gap D-line is fading, and it’s becoming more about quickness, leverage, and disruption.

So since I’m probably 3 or 4 steps behind. How many coaching additions will there be?
DC, DL, ST, S, TE

DC, DL, TE, RB, STC and potentially Safeties …

3 of those positions are officially filled but haven’t been announced publicly yet …

If we do hire a safeties coach … I think it’ll be Kerry Cooks … It’s just a little TBD right now …

IMO Chris Partridge seems to fit the best of the candidates mentioned.Has coached safeties in the past, has some play calling experience, excelled as OLB coach for Seahawks. Not sure of any past relationship with BB.Pushed out of NCAA football due to Michigan spy scandel, may want to return to college as DC and play caller?

Key West isn't a big place but is a lot fun especially in January. I wouldn't pass up an expense paid trip to Key West.
Yep I was stationed there in the Navy for a year while going to sonar school many many moons ago, very cool place.

Good call on rb coach, completely forgot about that one.
If we don’t hire a safties coach, will that be because the new dc will take over group or would parker take over that position group?

So you are saying our panic about the DL should now shift to the OLB/Edge group? I see the vision with Barna and Holmes but the depth beyond that is hit or miss with Brown/Kante.

Offensive coaches (RB and TE) and STC are already finalized …

TBD on how defensive staff will fully shakeout …

Part of the thought with bringing Cooks in is we might need a guy who can go recruit and has some real connections besides just Parker and Arch …

Harris is a good dude … Good coach … But he just isn’t that well connected yet … Just takes time …

Bret would benefit from having a guy like Cooks on staff that has been in the game and has established connections (especially in Texas) … IMO …

Especially if he’s going to the NFL world with some of these hires … Typically those dudes don’t wanna be on the trail all the time and don’t have a ton of connections …

Harris is very well liked in Florida. Coaches down here love the guy and the kids do too. On the space and treasure coast Bielema is easily one of the most well liked and respected coaches if not THE most.

My predictions based on what I know…

Believe they promote from within for STC

DC- NFL guy installing a new system

DL- NFL experience and NCAA experience. Good recruiter with ties to the DC

S- Also hearing Cooks name a lot

TE- college coach with good recruiting ties

Would not be surprised to maybe see one more change on the defensive staff but time will tell once next week comes around.

If Buffalo's defense was serviceable they might actually win a super bowl. He could definitely help in that regard. I think he is going to be good at the next level.
That and a playmaking wide receiver

Look at the players they have brought in. We haven’t brought in a big run stuffing nose. This will be a 1 gap defense with quicker defensive linemen
