Absolutely, but I worry about schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, and dare I say Indiana going after him too.
I get it but it’s also a good sign that those type of programs are interested in your commits.

If they beat us for him as a freshman, we can come back and grab him when he transfers out as a Soph because they already have 5* or a higher touted Transfer.
The old adage in recruiting is the worst place to be is to finish second on a recruit because you've invested all the time and effort and probably passed on someone else who might have been almost as good. I don't think that's the case here because Illinois has built a good QB room and continues to stack QBs in each class.
Recruiting these days boils down to $$$, the opportunity to get to the NFL...and relationship/trust. The Illini may be second-tier in the $$$ category (although I can't imagine donating $100M, having your name on the stadium and not making sure the program is in a position financially to succeed). But in the other two categories, the Illini check the boxes, especially in relationship/trust with Art, Barry and Bret. They may finish second in this recruiting race, but I'm glad they were among the first to make Lopati a priority.

Massive start for in-state recruiting in the Class of 2027. Especially since this looks like the best crop of prospects the state has seen in over a decade according to rankings.

Big time get. Has all the makings of an elite CB or S. DBU is going to get another reinforcement of it's status in CFB soon with Hankins, Eberhart, Johnson, etc. Hopefully will be able to close on some more soon.
