I'm fine with letting Tomi go. I'd love to keep Z, but the expense has to meet the performance.
There is a very low probability, IMHO, that Z and Tomi will break up the band next year. It is highly likely they will be playing. together, but far from certainty.

Now, if they play together, there is a good chance it will be another collegiate team, Europe, or the Illini. I sure hope it is in C-U.

This team that we’re watching now seems to be a little different than they were earlier though

In that we have Kylan and Andrej (who was sick, I hear, but at least not injured) back?

Okay super random question, but did one of the announcers say that we would likely be a 3-5 seed? Did I hear that correctly?
Cause that is the most ā€œthey’re ranked 11thā€ type of lazy analysis
I have to think he was talking about the conference tournament

Couldn’t agree more … And Brad spent most of the game sitting on his šŸ‘ …

No fire … No adjustments … Just keep chucking 3s and let Mills score at will …

100% disagree. We made lots of adjustments and started going to the basket and attacked the middle of the floor. Maryland was making a ton of difficult shots, but our defense (especially rebounding) was not great. This was probably due to half of our rotation being sick and/or playing hurt.

Brad was 3/3 on challenges and I thought coached a good game. We should have still won that game by 15 without making another three. Our offense is starting to settle for bronze shots again like last year. We need to be patient and test defenses for a full 25 seconds. We have plenty of guys that can work iso with 5 on the clock to get a shot if needed.

Was nice to get the W against Maryland even though I think that everyone on the team played like their dog died today. Mirk's dog died too, but he didn't care so he played well.
MIRK is just a problem for anybody we play. And he's only going to get better.
He has a dog in him in the paint and fantastic passing knack. And a court personality that national media is going to freaking eat up in a week.

Illinois was 9-1 in the Big Ten at one point.

They haven't looked quite a sharp at times lately.

It was a good question and Brad was offended
It’s the assertion at the end of the question that was offensive…suggesting confidence might be challenged with ā€œclose games coming upā€.

sturdy should have left that crap out.

For the money they're making this year … ROI isn’t there …

And they want MORE next year …
if they want more... don't let the door hit ya on the way out... ABSOLUTELY not lol. Tomi should be giving money back for this year. Big Z has mostly earned his keep I guess.

we shot 16 threes in the first half, and 8 in the second half. We shot 5 free throws in the first half, and 21 in the second - so it seems like we certainly did go inside more.

As for the "bunnies" idk. Both teams shot basically identical from 2 point range. And if they missed bunnies, they more than made up for it with some incredibly difficult midrange shots.

As a note, our 24 3-point attempts today would rank on a per game average - 147th in the country.
Yeah, we took more good shots near the rim than they did (19-23 vs 7-11). Sometimes if the 3s aren't falling, we force shots up on contested drives, but that wasn't the story today. We should really be picky with our 3pt shots in a game like this. None for T, Z, Drej, or Bos. Only really good looks for most of the others. Jake and Wagler (when healthy) are the only ones with a bit more leeway.

Some strange stat lines: hardly any rebounds and no blocks for Z. Hardly any scoring for T, but some rebounds and assists earned him a decent BPM. Jake with a great stat line, but short on minutes.

I really don’t comprehend why we never double team anyone. When Mills is just destroying you and threatening to beat you by himself, send a hard double and force him to pass it.

I’m not a basketball wizard, but come on, man.

I’m good with letting both go if we can get players that do not get pushed around inside. Z is just not a smart player. He’s always trying to make the highlight play instead of the right play, and has a hot head for no reason many times.

That is comical. šŸ˜‚

I REALLY wish Nebraska had lost so that we'd be the 3 seed. Oh well, though. Just gotta play the hand we've been dealt. When our guys are on, they're virtually unstoppable. Hopefully, now that every game from here on out will be win or go home, that killer mentality we saw for so much of the season fully returns. I believe! GO ILLINI!!! 🄳
On the bright side, I have a valid excuse to take the day off from work to attend the game (already had time off, but can avoid housework now).

nailed it.

Pfft. When Michael Jordan would get the flu he’d drop 40. What gives, Andrej?

After going 9-1, we went through a stretch without Boswell and then Boswell and Stojakovic. I don’t think it’s a total coincidence.

Because Sturdy thought he was throwing him a softball question. Gave Underwood every opportunity to instead talk about winning close games. Playing some tough teams on the road, yada yada, whatever. Change the narrative.

Nope, instead went all cry baby on Sturdy.

Sturdy then has to apologize  to maintain his good guy status.
Now there's a take.......
