Mostly agree Pru, but ref bashing late in the game is no excuse when the players who blew a 15 pt head 15 minutes ago should not be in a position where one bad ref call
loses the game for us.
I agree. I think, and me included, many focus on officiating as opposed to seeing Illinois' defeciencies.

People not intent on digging their feet in the sand might also call this a trend. We are 4-5 in our last nine games, and that is objectively the most relevant window into what our NCAA Tournament prospects look like as of now. Could they improve, and could we see the same squad that won 12 straight next week? Of course. But it's absurd to accuse people of "recency bias" (much less having emotional hot takes, what an unfair thing to say to anyone with eyes to see right now...) for allowing their opinion on this team's ceiling to change with, ya know ... the reality we are witnessing.
The counterpoint is that we're still #5 on Torvik over that span (but a big gap from the 4 1-seeds)

But then the counterpoint to that counterpoint is that if you just look at Q1 games over that span, then we're #24 on Torvik (edit: we're 0-5, and it's all on the defensive end: 106.3 vs 100.1).

But analytics! We probably got better on Ken Pom or something.

I don't care what a computer says, W-L is all that matters.
From a St, Louis Cardinal fan perspective, I think Lars Nootbar is no better than a 4th outfielder. And the Nootbar fans will tell me he has great analytics. The eye test is more important than any analytics.

This team looks emotionally drained, they look completely defeated. Similar to last years team. Zero fire. Why should anyone believe they will do anything different in the tourney?? Every single interview, nobody seems to show any life. Keaton looks completely checked out, not sure what happened to him.

12-0 against bottom 2/3 of Big Ten. 3-6 against the top third… but… four OT losses in the six.

This team has been roughly the 20th best team all season. And they’re remarkably consistent in playing at that level.

We win the first two, and assuming a 2 (or even 1) seed awaits in the Sweet 16, that’s it.

Unless Wagler goes Carmelo 2.0.

… and Brad is a great coach. 0-4 in OT is unlucky as much as un-clutch.
Not unlucky just a pattern.

I think given your "net optimism rating", the adjusted version of what you're saying is that Tomi's rebounding sucks

(Edit: and I mean this in good fun)
Yes, and what bothers me is how streaky it is.

Last 7 games, he’s hauled in 34 rebounds: 4.8 per game.

The 9 games prior: 7.5 per game.

In those 9 games, only ONE time did he not have at least 6 rebounds.

The last 7 games, he’s finished with less than 6 REBs FOUR times (4, 4, 4, 2 in those games).

His 2 rebounds today matched his lowest output of the entire season.

I guess I would feel a little better if it leaked out that in the Illini dressing room after the game two or three players beat the crap out of a garbage can, and then burned a certain Wisconsin jersey in effigy

12 seasons prior to Brad:

2006 — second round
2007 — first round
2008 — missed tournament
2009 — first round (upset by Western Kentucky)
2010 — missed tournament
2011 — second round
2012 — missed tournament
2013 — second round
2014 — missed tournament
2015 — missed tournament
2016 — missed tournament
2017 — missed tournament
That has zero relevance. We couldn't play players, and everyone couldn't leave their teams and come play for the high bidder every year.
You are comparing Apples and Pigs.

Maybe it's time for Brad to get a technical for chewing out the refs, the refs won the game

Keaton Wagler drives the lane all game and gets 3 fts

Blackwell and Boyd combine for 24

We still should’ve found a way to win but get all the way the f out
I don't usually complain about the refs but today's game had absolutely awful reffing mostly in UW's favor.
That awful call with less than a minute left when we played good d and would have gotten the ball back but for the call was the worst of them all. Even the announcers were hemming and hawing about that one.

My only consolation is that we were going to lose tomorrow anyway, so why not get it over with today. Now we can spend tomorrow and Sunday watching good teams try to win their conference tournaments and figuring out who to pick in our brackets (since we dont have to loyally advance the Illini to winning it all anymore).

Illinois gonna be a very common upset pick for the first weekend.
As they should be. I wont be picking us to any further than first round. This is the type that loses to a 6 seed.

How do you cover those two guys because all they want to do is drive and get fouled.
Go to a zone??? I didn’t get to see the game but Michigan drove to the basket at will for layups and alley oop dunks…shoulda gone to a zone against them. I’m guessing BU didn’t play any zone against Whisky either to slow down the penetration.
Sounds like our defense got penetrated from the rear instead.

I’ve tried very hard not to “blame” Underwood, but at what point do we call this trend concerning, at the least? Giving up huge leads, having 1 or 2 guys beat you, our guys looking out of sorts when we get down, unable to start or finish strong… etc…

It is very odd
Well, when your Son Coaches the team this craphole happens. Sick of hearing analytics, tallest team in country, 3 point shooting, etc.. move on get a Man who can coach in practice gym and during games without looking to Son and get a Defensive assistant Coach as well! Not a reTred from Colgate or Howard.
Finished, we have huge investments in these players and brand. They are professionals for all purpose now. Why the fck in Ty Rodgers still sitting on bench. He's being Paid, play him and roll dice. You only get 1 chance, stating wait til next year is Bogus! I'm exhausted at 4-5 in last 9 games. We were better when Andre and Kylan were Not playing!
