Our highest ppp outputs this season:

1. 1.568 today
2. 1.499 against Jackson State
3. 1.465 against FGCU
4. 1.436 against USC
5. 1.433 against Missouri
6. 1.387 against Purdue

Just crazy to do that in a tournament game.
I’m still just waiting for someone to tell me what this team’s identity is

I think they should just give up the act and call them "players" instead of "student athletes."

Do people ever look at our stats? Andrej and Big Z are leading our team in fg%. So I guess yes he has made a few
I guess I'm suffering from recency bias, but in our last 5 games he's shooting 42%. Not great for layups. And every possession ends when he touches the ball. Not good enough

Pulled from the game thread, as it deserves quite the laugh:

Rebounding = luck

Illinois:

3rd in offensive rebound.

37th in defensive rebounding.

7th in total rebounding.

So many balls for some odd reason just bouncing our way.

Great rebounding = luck

Illinois:

3rd in offensive rebound.

37th in defensive rebounding.

7th in total rebounding.

So many balls bouncing our way “off the rim.” Life is good!
Plus our luck as measured by the actual metric was like in the 240's nationally.

Some people just prefer to be miserable.

Guys. For me, I think the largest winning margin of the day as well as the most points scored of the day may have finally overcome the ghosts of Austin Peay.

Today the 3 seed did its job.

To be fair, there is luck involved in both offensive and defensive rebounding. But, positioning yourself correctly and being “correctly aggressive” can mitigate the bad luck and increase the good luck.

Plus being 8 inches taller helps.

Edit: and as illini0440 said, they can better position themselves by knowing the likelihood of where missed shots likely rebound to.

What particularly interesting is if we lost there would be 700 posts on how miserable we are and how the program is failing. When we win.....crickets.
I’m very happy we won today and looked great in the 2nd half. For whatever it’s worth, I told y’all we’d win handily 3 days ago… anyway… not sure why you’d post something like that. We’re all Illini fans and the vast majority are Brad supporters… but there were several questionable thing he did just in this game alone. When he does odd (dumb?) things; people question it. There’s nothing wrong with that. Don’t want to be negative after a great Illini win, but dismissing people out of hand for questioning questionable things Brad does just seems disingenuous.

It’s satisfying and doesn’t mess up anyone’s day/night. They played like we want our team to play.

With that said, people shouldn’t get high praise for doing what they’re supposed to do. I would hope losing in the first round would bring some fire to life long fans. But having nearly a week off to prepare to play, making in-game adjustments, being a top 10 ranked team most of the season should come with expectations to beat the brakes off of a not-so-good Penn team.

It was fun to watch. Not gonna lie, an Austin Pea like loss woulda have had me furious. But I’m not and that’s how life should be as an Illinois basketball fan.

I remember Derek Rose being asked about meeting Tom Thibedeau for the first time while practicing with Team USA. Rose said Thibs told him as the smallest guy on the floor he needs to box out the biggest guy on the floor after every shot to make it easier on his bigs to get the rebound.

I only bring this up because rebounding isn’t just about the tenacity of individual players, it’s also a collaborative effort.

This same statement could be said about every coach after every game from now until the end of time. Because:

1. No coach is perfect.
2. The general public only has access to a tiny fraction of the available information that goes into a coach making a particular decision.
3. Coaches have to make decisions before the eventual outcome occurs. Whereas fans get to judge each decision based on the eventual result after said result occurs.

And if we were to let the “couch coaches” in the game thread who are simply “questioning Brad’s dumb decisions” coach this season, we would’ve lost 20 games.
