Out of this group I would definitely take Szelc ... he will control the game and doesn't mind sticking it to the home crowd. Also I think Brad gets along with him. DJ and Scirotto are not the best refs at all but might be ok given B10 familiarity. High Knees Anderson, despite the familiarity, is a hard no for me. And I still harbor intense dislike for Courtney Green even though he's been in the SEC for a few years.
Agree with most. But agree with @aaeismacgychel that dj carcinogen is a h*ll to the no.

Yep. Everyone scared of Houston but they should be scared of us, too.

One thing Illinois might have in it's advantage is the ability to "light up the scoreboard" when the offense is clicking. Houston has gone over 80 against major conference tourney teams twice. 94 vs Arkansas early in the year & 88 against A&M in round 2. If we are hitting shots one wonders if they have the offense to score 90 if need be.

Of course they are a good defensive team so it's harder to get the quality shots. But our offense is so 3 reliant that if the shots are falling it's hard to stop. We are also varied in that several guys can & have gotten hot at times this year. We also have 3 guys that are good drivers of the ball.

We really haven't had much trouble with getting good shots in games this year. It's been other things that have let down at times. We need one of those 14/29 type of nights from deep.

We're a funky, weird, unique challenge.

We have played teams that are more like them than the teams they've played are like us.

The trouble is, above all else the coaching point against Illinois is don't be intimidated by us. Do what you do well enough and that will start putting pressure on us and cracks start to form. Be the protagonist of the game, Illinois will allow you to do that.

If anyone anywhere did not know or had any doubts... WE ARE a (The?) Basketball State.

If They ever decide to retire the ‘Prairie State’ nameplate – I think we have a ready-to go alternative here. And it’s also environmentally friendly too!
If you grew up in Illinois back in the day, you had to do a 5th grade project and create an "Illinois Notebook", doing research on many aspects of life in Illinois. I will never forget one particular nickname I found...the Sucker State. Now, I live in Missouri so ya gotta show me...no longer a sucker. But I do like "The Basketball State"

I am pretty certain that there are no players or coaches who are "scared" of the other team in either locker room. However, I do fully believe that both teams have the undivided attention of their coaches....or at least they all should have. These kids know they will have to play at a high level of intensity and competence in order to advance any further. It should be a battle extraordinaire with blunders and highlights on both sides. We will have to hit some tough shots and make FTs to win, along with competent play.

If you’re paying $$$$ to go see your team, are you leaving or getting your money’s worth on another game of basketball…
Will Nebby/Iowa fans stay back and support fellow B1G team? That would be huge. Last time we went to final four both Michigan state and Illini fans supported both teams

Of the 48 refs still eligible to ref the Sweet 16 games that neither us or Houston have had ref them in the 1st or 2nd round, a few names stand out:

Courtney Green
Jeff Anderson
DJ Carstensen
Larry Scirotto
Paul Szelc

Time to start drinking early...
I thought they tried to avoid refs from the teams conferences. Am I mistaken?

analytics have favored IL all year. eye test wise its just extremely unlikely IL wins this game.

You’ve had a lot of eye testing on Houston? People I talk to that aren’t Illinois fans here in the KC area seem to think Illinois passes the eye test. The quote from the office today was “your boys looked like real championship contenders this weekend.”

I’m not saying they are or aren’t going to beat Houston. Houston is really good. But I don’t get your comment at all.
