Ah pre-portal time.

Reminds me when I would go through the Sears catalog and marking down what I wanted for Christmas. This dates me a little.

Now it reminds of the point each year where my daughter starts going through the Lego app and looking at every Lego set to release or possibly release and me me figuring out how much I may be spending for legos.
I used to do that. Then years later, I started looking at the ladies in their underpants. I grew up with the Sears catalog. I'll see myself out now.

I do not get the appeal of Haggerty at all, especially alongside a lineup like that. No PG would hurt and volume scorers are always overvalued. There’s a reason why the schools to pay up for him are ones with schools that are both going to have vacancies in the next year
We need a pure PG. A guy who can break down a defense and run the offense. That to me is number 1 this off season

Agreed, and Haggerty is definitely not that guy

Really don't understand the PJ Haggerty antipathy.

I doubt we pay what it takes to get him (I think his price will be large and we tend to spread the money around rather than focus on one very expensive piece), but if we're talking about just whether he would be good on this team rather than whether he provides good value, how can the answer be anything but yes? He's an efficient scorer at volume (hard to do both those things at once), who also rebounds and has good assist numbers. Defensive numbers not there with K-State, but much better at Memphis and Tulsa (which just tells me that Tang was not a good coach - big shock there). The only problem I have with him is how much he turns the ball over, but I feel like part of that is related to how much of the load he's been asked to carry at Memphis and K-State. Presumably that would not be the case here.

But I will say, blaming Haggerty, who won a conference title with Memphis, for Penny being on the hotseat because the team sucks without Haggerty, makes for some pretty impressive mental gymnastics.

Point was never about him causing Penny to be fired, but more so a bad coach overvaluing a volume scorer. He’s a fine player and can score but he’s a ball dominant guard with mediocre assist/turnover ratio. Those players will always be overvalued by fan perception. If you can get him at a reasonable price, sure, but if not I’d happily pass on him.

Allocating money in the right way is going to be crucial.

Any player on any team could just say, "pay me more or I leave". The End.

If you are Fears camp, or any reasonably good player on any team in America its just,
F*ck your teams culture, f*ck your fans, f*ck your coach, f*ck winning and f*ck the name on the front of the Jersey...I'll take another $800K from another team who I don't care about and then post "100% Committed" on my Instagram.

Not all players are like this but there will be alot.

The transfer portal will just continue to be chaos.
And kinda hard to blame them. If I had another employer offering me $800k I’m taking it. System sucks, but this is what we have.

Guys named "Christian" seem to be the focus.

AI meme of Brad as the Pope?

If I don't see a comment from Indy on the transfer player, I'm assuming he's just listing players entering the portal--not necessarily anyone the Illini would have interest in. I could be wrong on that.
