Vibe I get is he ain’t leaving unless it’s a HC position that sets him up for immediate success … Like an Elite mid major …
I read this comment again over lunch. It seems like Tyler would be walking quite the tightrope in terms of jobs. Usually, an "elite mid-major" would be a program looking for a coach with previous head coaching experience. The first schools that come to mind when I think of "elite mid-major" are VCU, Saint Louis, and maybe a program like Akron. Programs that are semi-consistently in the NCAA tournament either by dominating a lesser conference or being very competitive in an upper mid-major (or, in the case of SLU, are making big strides after some years of wandering in the wilderness).

I get it - Tyler's got a good situation at Illinois. He's working in his sweet spot, working with and for his dad, and is part of a program that's becoming sustainably and consistently successful. He may not want to be a head coach right now, and at 29 that's not a bad thing. But if he does, at his age he might have to take a flyer on a lesser position to prove his head coaching worth.

Put another way - if Josh Schertz leaves SLU for North Carolina State next week, I don't see Tyler being someone that would make the final round of interviews there. But, I'm also not nearly as plugged into this scene as you are and I could be 100% wrong about this.

Will Wade and LSU deserve each other. Sleazy program with sleazy car salesman type of coach. I saw the NC State AD's press conference and he was not pleased or happy with how it all played out. Wade is such a sleazebag that he didn't have enough guts to give his resignation through voice-to-voice or in person communication. It was an email from his agent to the AD. This was after they spoke about the state of the program and next steps on Tuesday.

I think NC State should go after Hubert Davis. I think Hubert should stick it to his alma mater who drove him out(whether it was warranted or not)

There’s two sides to every story … That’s all I’ll say about that for now …

If WW will allow me to spill the rest … Then I will …

I'm guessing NC State didn't deliver as much NIL, AC $, or something else that was promised. How close am I?

Back story or not...

If another company offers me higher pay, more money for my staff, better resources for my team...

I'm gone. I'm sorry? Everyone acts like they wouldn't do the same thing in their corporate lives...GMAB

Especially, if you loved the area you used to work at? What are we even talking about here. Seems like a no brainer

If Schertz goes to NC State … Watch who they replace him with at SLU …

If it’s Braeuer … SFA could be the spot for Tyler …

Do you think UNC would have hired him straight from Drake, or straight from Northwest MO St? I don't. I don't think they'd feel comfortable hiring a coach with no high major (or NBA though I think they'd shy away from a non-college guy this time) experience. I also don't think they'd entertain hiring if he'd lost to Florida. One middling year in Iowa followed by a R32 exit? No way. Only reason they feel comfortable even entertaining the idea now is the result of one singular game. Which is crazy.
I’m saying McCollum paid his dues for his position now at Iowa. And his taking Iowa to the Elite 8 has NOW positioned himself to a top job. Far from Satan’s son, who did not deserve HC at Auburn to begin with. Not even close in credentials.

Off topic, as Illini fans, we hope May and McCollum move out of the B1G.

NC State cant blame anyone but NC State when the sleazebag it hired did a sleazebaggy thing.
Well, I think the AD was duped. Supposedly, Wade was a reformed man and had gone to the lowest level and "earned" his way back up to a high major job. You'd think that a man would be grateful and indebted for the 2nd chance that he got but some people show their true colors when it comes to money, greed, and ego. Will give Wade credit for one thing: He is a very believable and charismatic salesman. That's why he keeps getting these opportunities

How much do you hate NC State to wish Hubert on them? That's cruel.
Lmao....they would be no worse than they were with Will Wade. First Four and out with Darrion Williams? Can you talk about a team underachieving much. They were so hot and cold that it was no surprise they got bounced in the First Four. They would either beat some good teams or get blown out by other quality teams. There was usually very little in between. The team should've performed much better than they did. Wade isn't as great of a coach as people make him out to be

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, well……..

NC State knew what they were getting, but chose to hire him anyway. I’m sure they knew this could happen, but they rolled the dice anyway.
They had to take a chance. As Will Wade himself said, they needed each other. Unfortunately, Wade duped them. The AD was genuinely surprised by the move and it appeared as if he was a bit blindsided by it as most recent convos that he had with Wade didn't seem like it was leading to a separation.

Does Kelvin hand over the reigns to his son for next season? Lots of cougar fans seem to think on their board - but that could just be rage posting on their behalf.

It’s not a secret he didn’t have any fun this year …

He essentially has had Kellen handling the freshman all year …

Kelvin likes old teams … Kellen wanted to build it a different way …

It’s probably time for him to retire …

He especially feasted on the COVID era with the get-old-stay-old mantra, but that phase has (somewhat) passed. Also, I'm a firm believer his kid will be a flop as a head coach. Putting it out there now.
