Update on how I’m feeling. As stated in the pregame thread, Mrs. Fighter is at work (shout out, ICU nurses!), and I took Little Fighter for a walk through Roscoe Village. The Reveler didn’t have an Iowa flag up for the first time since we moved here a few years ago, and I got 5 I-L-L callouts while walking around in my sweatshirt.

After choosing to take those as good signs and deciding I need to start getting excited rather than nervous, I got home and saw Da’Monte’s awesome Instagram story above. I’m now officially feeling nothing but excitement … let’s frickin’ do this.

It’s our year. I-L-L!

My family and I took a planned trip to StL in Dec 2025 where my 11 yo son, 9 yo daughter, and I took in the obliteration of Miznoz firsthand. We left home at 530 am this morning for spontaneous road trip to Houston where we are excited to see another locked-in dominant Illini performance. I couldn't pass up the opportunity. But, my wife, who really doesn't follow any sports at all, is the real Illinois fan -- she stayed home with our 7 and 5 yo so I could take this road trip with my older two kids and continue to indoctrinate them in the ways of the Orange & Blue 😜

I'm watching the Cardinals but my mind is on the beloved..............I think we will be ready to handle business today and play a complete game hitting on all cylinders...................it is an Elite 8 game with a trip to the Final Four awaiting the victor so I know it will be a hotly contested game but I feel this is that special season we all have been waiting for........

Play defense like last game and let the offense flow like the highly rated scheme it has been all season long.....

We can do this..............
We will do this...............

When you get within a whisper of the Final Four like this... every moment now is like Christmas Morning. All Season long Illini Nation has been staring at that shiny wrapping on that great big present sitting prominently under a huge Illinois pine tree covered with Orange and Blue lights. We want to open that present so badly to see what’s inside but we know that wouldn’t be any good because the present can’t be opened ahead of time.

So we wait and wonder and hope that it’s the present we’ve been hoping for... asking for... needing for a long time. And every moment we just get more excited.

This Season has already been a great gift for we in Illini Nation. We know it and appreciate itr. But we also know that there’s a really big present that we’ve got to have one of these days that we’ve been craving to see.

Let’s hope that when we open that Big Box when the time is right... the smiles on our faces can be seen from Winthrop Harbor to Mount City and East Dubuque to Mt. Carmel. And from Sea to Shining Sea.

May the roundball gods be smiling upon us... and may the Illini shots be finding the hole like a heat-seeking missle.

And maybe have some hot chocolate?...
